Xbox: next-gen features coming to older controllers too

Even older Xbox controllers will soon enjoy the next-gen features seen on the Series X and S pads; testing has already started

As of this writing, the insiders of Xbox (i.e. the beta testers of the program of the same name, not to be confused with real insiders) can enjoy a new firmware update for their controller, which will implement the features of their counterparts in them next-gen. In other words, therefore, all the controllers for Xbox One with Bluetooth support, the adaptive ones and (obviously) the Elite versions can be put on a par with the controllers for Series X and Series S. There is a lot to talk about, and Xbox Wire detailed the upcoming new features.

Classic Xbox controllers and their upcoming next-gen features

Quoting textually what was reported by Xbox Wire, these controllers now support new functions such as Bluetooth Low Energy, which improves compatibility between devices and allows better synchronization. It will therefore be possible to play wirelessly on PCs with Windows 10, on iOS from version 15 upwards, and on Android devices. This paves the way for remote gaming from the console or in the cloud with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate even away from the console. After installing the update, the controllers will remember both the paired bluetooth device and the console itself. The change is done by double tapping the pairing button.

In addition, with this firmware update, you can take advantage of the DLI. The acronym, which stands for Dynamic Latency Input, allows you to drastically reduce input lag. These new features will be available for controllers with Bluetooth support, adaptive controllers and Elite controllers. The firmware update is available from today for the aforementioned testers, and in the weeks to follow it will be available for those registered for the “flight” (the term also used for the tests of Halo Infinite, closely linked to the console).
