Xpeng Motors made its debut at Munich Auto Show to unveil its ambitious expansion strategy in Europe. The Chinese automaker is already present in four northern European countries, but now aims to enter the German market next year, followed by further expansion in countries such as France and the United Kingdom. The presence of Xpeng at the Bavarian event heralded the possibility of its imminent entry into one of the most competitive automotive markets in the world. Now, it’s official, marking another challenge from a Chinese automaker to big German automakers.
Xpeng: Brian Gu’s words on the expansion in Europe
Brian Guthe co-chairman of Xpeng, said:
We are about to enter one of the most competitive automotive markets in the world, with customers who expect the highest standards. We want to introduce an amazing technology that will define the new era of intelligent mobility.
The company, which recently signed a China-limited cooperation agreement with the Volkswagen Group, will debut in Germany with two EVs already introduced in Northern Europe: the P7 sedan and the G9 SUV which have been available for order and purchase in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands since last February (based in Amsterdam, where Xpeng has also established its headquarters).
