YouTube has announced a new feature that will allow users to create songs with artificial intelligence (AI). Is called Dream Track Shorts and exploit the model Lyria in Deep Mind (an Alphabet company), to generate original songs based on user requests.
How Dream Track Shorts will work
To use Dream Track Shorts, simply type an idea into the creation request and select a participating artist who appears in the carousel. The AI will produce an original soundtrack featuring that artist’s voice, which the creator can use in his or her clips. Currently, the catalog includes styles and voices from real artists such as Demi Lovato, Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, John Legend, Papoose, Sia, T-Pain e Troye Sivan.
YouTube AI accepts requests in several formats: text, hummed melody, or a combination of text and audio. The goal is to offer users maximum creative freedom and facilitate the music creation process.
YouTube’s AI to create songs: the agreement with the major record companies
Dream Track Shorts is the result of a collaboration between YouTube and record companies, which they granted licenses to the participating artists. YouTube said it is working with partners of Music AI Incubator about “a set of musical AI tools” focused on the music creation process.
The video sharing platform also announced new tools that will allow users and moderators to report inappropriate videos made with artificial intelligence, to make contents more transparent and avoid the spread of deepfakes.
When will YouTube’s Dream Track Shorts arrive?
Dream Track Shorts is expected to be released to users soon, as part of YouTube’s short videos section (The Shorts). At the moment the company has not announced an official date.
