Through a recent name change, Sony originated the PlayStation PC brand for its games
It seems that the historical separation that characterized the PlayStation brand from the PC platform is increasingly fading and merging with the latter. For some years now it has been possible to use the exclusive titles PlayStation through the PS Now: games such as Bloodborne, Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us are in fact accessible on all kinds of PCs through the streaming service created by the company. However, this type of cloud gaming also has limitations, such as the high latency that often appears in some games, or the problems caused by a connection that is not fast enough.
PlayStation and PC finally united
Over the course of 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said that bringing PlayStation games and exclusives to PC was an opportunity to show them to a wider audience, giving greater recognition to video game development. In an interview he also said how he wished he could turn this media into a bigger, comparable thing other kinds of entertainment like cinema. Another move that highlighted the growing presence of the PlayStation brand on the PC is the porting of a large number of titles that has occurred in recent times, and which will continue more and more also in the next few years, with for example the arrival of the remaster of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and God of War on Steam.
So PlayStation is in the process of changing its policies in definitive way, also altering the PlayStation Mobile name to “PlayStation PC”. Furthermore, the company of this same name had already been formed during the year. Also worth mentioning is the acquisition of a studio specialized in porting of video games on PC, Nixxes Software. It may be that we will soon have the opportunity to see too other important ones games expected by those who do not have access to a PS4 or PS5 console and who are unleashed at the vision of rather vague rumors, such as the rumored arrival of Bloodborne.
