Netflix unveils the trailer for The Power of the Dog, a new film by Jane Campion starring Benedict Cumberbatch
From December 1st, The Power of the Dog, a new film by Jane Campion, will be available on Netflix with Benedict Cumberbatch as the protagonist.
Netflix has decided to unveil the trailer that shows the actor in the role of a creepy cowboy.
The plot
The story is set in the 1920s and how protagonists are two wealthy brothers who live in Montana, Phil e George Burbank.
Phil is brilliant, but inflexible, sometimes brutal, while George is kind, kindhearted, a little naive and harassing. Together they own the largest ranch in the area they live in.
When George secretly marries the widow Rose, Phil, full of anger, wages a relentless war to destroy her by using her son, Peter, in his favor.
Cast and production
The Power of the Dog sees in the cast, in addition to the aforementioned Cumberbatch, also Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons. Jane Campion wrote the screenplay based on thehomonymous novel written by Thomas Savage in 1967.
The project started with producer Roger Frappier, who acquired the rights to the novel in 2012, but did not go into production until Campion agreed to write and direct the adaptation in 2019.
The shooting of the film took place in New Zealand, in January 2020 in Maniototo, in the Otago region, and then moving to Dunedin.
The film premiered on 1 September 2021 in competition at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, where he managed to win a Golden Lion for Best Director. It will also be presented at the BFI London Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.

In the trailer it shows itself how breeder Phil copes with his family’s arrival of his brother George’s wife and son on the ranch, a situation that causes a lot of tension and could have potentially dramatic consequences, given the nature of the man.
