Panasonic introduces Lumix S 35mm F1.8, the new fixed lens with large aperture and L-Mount system
Panasonic introduces a new fixed focal length, wide aperture lens: LUMIX S 35 mm F1.8 (S-S35), the fourth in the series of wide aperture F1.8 lenses based on the L-Mount attachment system. All four lenses in this LUMIX S series – which includes 85mm (S-S85), 50mm (S-S50), 24mm (S-S24) and the new entry 35mm – have a common size and weight to ensure maximum practicality even when you need to connect the camera to a gimbal. Furthermore, having the same diameter, the filters are interchangeable. The objectives are also similar in terms of descriptive performance.
LUMIX S 35 mm F1.8 is made up of 11 elements divided into nine groups, as well as three aspherical lenses and three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses that improve the description of the image and achieve fabulous bokeh effects – two advantages common to all the F1.8 objectives of the series. It lends itself to all situations, from large landscapes to fleeting moments, taking advantage of the natural angle of view, up to the portrait. In addition, it can be used for close-ups thanks to the 0.24m minimum focusing distance. ED lenses also effectively cancel chromatic aberrations.
Panasonic Lumix S 35 mm F1.8: features and price of the new lens
The smooth and quiet operation of the new 35mm harmonizes perfectly with the high-performance AF system, with sensor actuation speeds of up to 240 fps. In the non-linear setting, the focus point undergoes a shift of a variable entity based on the rotation speed of the ring, while in the linear setting it undergoes a specific shift based on the rotational quantum of the ring.
Sensitivity (the focus point shift however rotational) can be set in 30 ° increments over a range of 90 ° to 360 ° to allow for desired focus. LUMIX S 35mm F1.8 is also exceptional in shooting and is able to eliminate the apparent zoom effect when changing the focus distance – the so-called focus breathing, an insurmountable problem for interchangeable lenses limited only to photography. This mechanism, also assisted by the micro-increment aperture for smooth exposure change, ensures professional-quality footage.
With a compact and lightweight format (only 295g), the new 35mm is super convenient to take anywhere and to be used in conjunction with the S5, the smallest full-frame model in the LUMIX family. The solid body, resistant to dust and splashes1, is designed for easy use and complete freedom of movement even in extreme conditions, such as temperatures of -10 ° C. The 67mm diameter filter has a 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm.
LUMIX S 35 mm F1.8 (S-S35) will be marketed in the Italian market starting from the end of November 2021. The indicative price suggested to the public will be 679 €.
