According to a new report, Sony would be working on a service in the wake of Xbox Game Pass per PlayStation. Bloomberg says sources familiar with Sony’s upper echelons have shared details of a new service under the code name “SpartacusWhich provides that PlayStation owners can pay a monthly fee for access to a library of modern and classic games. Here are the three “levels” of the alleged competing Xbox Game Pass service designed by Sony
The documents on the project in style Game Pass per PlayStation studied by Sony they revealed three “levels” for upcoming service. The former includes the same benefits as Playstation plus, which is required for online games and includes some free games every month. A higher level offers access to the catalog of games such as Game Pass and a third level includes extended demos, game streaming and access to a larger library which includes games for PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP.
Since the backward compatibility has been a popular request from PlayStation owners, using a new service to bring older games to the library could be a tempting move.
The new service is expected to be launched in spring 2022 and will combine Sony’s two existing subscription services, Playstation plus e PlayStation Now it’s a cloud service which allows users to stream games directly to their consoles. According to Bloomberg, the PlayStation Plus name will remain, but PlayStation Now will be phased out as a brand.
Despite beating competitors like Stadia in the market, PlayStation Now has failed to catch on as the main PlayStation subscription service, although the company has recently taken steps to add major titles like God of War and The Last of Us 2.
It is almost clear why Sony wants to offer a service similar to Game Pass. The Xbox subscription service was a huge success for Microsoft and boasts over 18 million subscribers as of January 2021.
In addition to access to a library of games, Xbox Game Pass also gives users day-one access to proprietary Xbox games such as Forza Horizon 5 e Halo Infinite. What’s more, future prominent titles like Bethesda’s Starfield are also coming to the service in question.
