In the last weeks, Google has been slowly testing and rolling out a number of new features for Messages on Android. The company announced today that the reactions of iMessagethe integration of Google Photos and many other features will soon be launched around the world: here is everything we know about the matter based on the official release.
Google: news for Messages
On iOS, users can reply to a message with one of six Tapback. Historically, that action was communicated to phones Android via SMS / MMS as a quoted message. Google’s Messages app will now translate that reply into an actual message and display it in the lower right corner of the text you sent.
At the same time, Google will allow you to upload videos to Google photo and share them with other users as links. This will result in a much higher quality experience than MMS with the feature, once enabled from Settings> Google Photos, automatically integrated into the in-app media selector.
This integration is accompanied by a redesign of Messages which adds a navigation option to replace the overflow menu, which is now replaced by your profile avatar and thus instantly understand which account is using Google Photo. The settings are also found in that new menu, while everything else from Starred to Archived and Mark All as Read is in the navigation menu.
Under the search field, you will also notice the “Personal” and “Business” tabs, as well as “All”, which automatically group (with attention to device privacy) their conversations. The app can also delete one-time passwords (OTPs) after 24 hours to reduce the risk of hacking.
