Embracer Group entered into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal and a catalog of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 unreleased games by Square Enix Holdings for $ 300 million. Once this deal is concluded, Embracer will have more than 14,000 employees, 10,000 game developers and 124 in-house studios. The company also confirmed that it has more than 230 games in development at the aforementioned studios and more than 30 are AAA titles.
This news comes shortly after the announcement of Crystal Dynamics related to the development of a brand new Tomb Raider game on Unreal Engine 5. No further details were provided, but the team said they were planning to push the game to the limit of photorealism.
Embracer is no stranger to acquisitions, just think that it has undergone rapid expansion in recent years. Some of the other companies it has acquired are Dark Horse Comics, 3D Realms, Ghost Ship Games, Gearbox, THQ Nordic, Saber Interactive, Koch Media, and many more.
