In 2023 a new animated series intended for a decidedly childish audience is coming, from Enanimation, The Sound Collector.
The new series targets very young children, it ranks, in fact, as a pre-school.
It consists of 60 episodes of about 5 minutes each and it is entirely made in stop motion or puppet animation (if you prefer).
The co-production partner is the British company Eagle Vs Bat which will collaborate on the realization with Mackinnon and Saunders.
The animation will be shot in Manchester at M&S while live shots will be shot in Cornwall.
The directors of the series include the award-winning Barry Puves.
The theme covered by the series is that of disability. It is about a theme that is not always proposed in children’s products. In fact, the protagonist has a hearing impairment that he always tries to compensate by collecting and recreating sounds.
The plot
The Sound Collector is a stop frame and live action series featuring a small, partially deaf man. He is always accompanied by his friend Talpa and, thanks to his semi-disability, he is particularly fascinated by sounds. Like this he spends his days collecting sounds (that’s why sound collector).
The protagonist of the series is always in search of new sounds that not only records thanks to a small recorder, which serves as the additional hearing aid, but also tries to create something new by mixing the various sounds collected.
By being able to record sounds, he has the ability to listen to them again and rework them to the fullest. From here he derives the creative aspect, which allows him to enjoy not only the sonic aspect of the music, but also of the vibrational aspect of it.
The adventures of the sound collector are told by a intradiegetic narrator which has the task of accompanying the little spectators inside the adventures of the protagonists in constant search of the sounds of the surrounding environment.
