It was 2019 when Jony Ive, a well-known industrial designer, left his role as Chief Design Officer at Apple after more than 20 years of work. He founded his own design studio, but has always remained a faithful advisor to the company. At least until now. According to a New York Times report, in fact, the collaboration relationship between Apple and Ive has come to an end.

After over 20 years of collaboration, Jony Ive definitely says goodbye to Apple. By mutual agreement, it seems, the designer and the company have decided not to renew their agreement. According to the New York Times, some Apple executives were “frustrated” by how much the company was paying Ive, who was hiring some of the company’s talent for his design studio in the meantime. In short, the situation could have been more complex than it seemed. But neither Apple nor Ive wanted to comment on it.
In any case, it is undeniable that the relationship between the two was more than solid. When the designer left the company to found his own studio LoveForm, Apple decided to be a customer anyway. This means that Ive’s talent has contributed to the creation of many Apple products, even if we do not know which ones. Indeed, one thing is certain: Jony Ive worked on the production of the wireless headphones AirPods Max, at least according to some details that composer Hans Zimmer missed. And this could be one of the designer’s many legacies to the company. From now on, in fact, there won’t be any more.
