Italy is first in Europe for ransomware and malware attacks

A recent study conducted by Trend Micro reveals that in May Italy achieved a record of which there is nothing to be proud of: the first country in Europe for both ransomware and malware attacks. Globally, it ranks fifth for ransomware attacks and sixth for malware attacks. For the former, in the world, Italy is preceded only by the United States, Turkey, Japan, Taiwan and India when it comes to ransomware. It even earns a notch in malware ahead of Japan, the United States, India and Brazil.

To be more specific Trend Micro refers that, in May, the total number of ransomware intercepted worldwide was 1,336,000. Research tells us that the five sectors in order most affected by cybercriminals in Italy were: PA, healthcare, tech, manufacturing and banking. As of May 2022, Trend Micro operated around the world 500 billion queries and stopped 11.5 million threatsof which 58.6% by e-mail.

The data is the result of the analysis of the Smart Protection Network. This latest is Trend Micro’s global intelligence network that identifies and analyzes threats and constantly updates the online database of cyber incidents. All to block attacks in real time, thanks also to the best platform-based technology available on the market. The Smart Protection Network consists of over 250 million sensors. These manage to block an average of 65 billion threats per yearwith a record 94 billion threats blocked in 2021.
