After the teaser released a month ago, here is the trailer for the horror film produced by Jason Blum which marks the directorial debut of renowned screenwriter John Logan. In addition, the film rides the wave of the latest battles of LGBTQ + and woke culture.
You may not know the name, but surely you can bet that at least once in your life you have seen one or more films with a screenplay signed by John Logan. Among his successes we remember Every damn Sundaythe colossal Gladiator, The Aviator, Skyfall e Spectre.
On August 5, in the USA, streaming on Peacock, They / Them, the film that marks Logan’s directorial debut, will debut: it is horror, or rather a slasher, which is produced by Jason Blum and starring Kevin Bacon (one who, speaking of slasher, in 1980 was also in the cast of the first Friday 13), Theo Germaine, Anna Chlumsky, Carrie Preston, Austin Crute, Monique Kim, Anna Lore, Cooper Cook e Darwin del Fabro.
And that there are pronouns in the title, as you have surely noticed, is not by chance.
La trama di They/them
Like Friday the 13th, in fact, They / Them is also set in a summer camp, except that the camp in question, run by Bacon and his family, is actually one of those disturbing places where, in the USA, not exactly progressive families send daughters. and homosexual children with the intent to “cure” them of their “disease”. What does not change is that at some point a masked killer will reveal himself who will begin to sow panic and death in the camp.
But no more chatter, below is the official trailer for John Logan’s directorial debut, They / them.
The official synopsis of the film
A group of gay and trans boys arrive at Camp Whistler for a week-long course that aims to “help them find a new sense of freedom”. As the methods used in the camp become more and more psychologically disturbing, the kids will have to team up to protect themselves. When a mysterious killer starts taking victims, things get even more dangerous.
John Logan’s statement
John Logan has openly stated:
They / Them has germinated within me all my life. I have always loved horror movies, I think because monsters represent ‘the other’ and as a gay teenager I have always felt a deep closeness with those characters who were different, outlawed, forbidden. I wanted to make a film that celebrated queerness, with characters I’d never seen in the cinema as I was growing up. I hope that when people finish watching the movie they will remember the great love these guys feel for each other, and how that love needs to be protected and celebrated.
We can’t wait for the release of this film! We remain at your disposal and, as always, we will keep you informed of all the news. Stay tuned!
