BMW M celebrates its first 50 years with the debut of the new BMW XM. This is the series version of the concept car presented at the end of last year and is also the brand’s first high-performance model to be equipped with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a V8 petrol engine and an electric motor.

The new model will go into production later this year, at the Spartanburg plant in the USA. The debut in dealerships around the world is scheduled for next spring. The new BMW XM has been defined by the company as Sports Activity Vehicle – SAV to underline the SUV’s high-performance footprint.
The new model can count on M HYBRID drive system. The system has an overall power of 653 CV. Power is generated by the combined work of the 489 hp petrol engine and the 197 hp electric drive system. The petrol engine is a newly developed V8 equipped with the M TwinPower Turbo system. This is a 4.4-liter unit with a cross-banked exhaust manifold. The M HYBRID system produces up to 800 Nm of torque.
