Ferrari victim of a ransomware-type hacker attack
The Red Hot Cyber website reports the attack suffered by Ferrari, but today’s is not the first ransomware to hit the Maranello company. In fact, in the past already the cybergang Everest had hit Speroni spa, indeed a company that supplies components for sports cars, leading to the publication of documents of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati.
This time, however, the hackers of the cybergang RansomEXX directly hit the IT infrastructure of the ‘Cavallino’, infecting it with ransomware. This means that the data of a part of the network has been blocked by hackers, who then ask for a ransom from the company in question. However, cybergang has published some of this data on the dark web, to show that it actually perpetrated the coup.
The Maranello-based company has yet to disclose the details of the attack, but the data published by the hackers seems legitimate. A ransomware attack for a company like Ferrari involves several problems. In fact, even if the company were able to get back up and running using backups, the problem of online data remains. Which may contain information on production processes and industrial secrets that the company wants to protect.
At the moment it is too early to draw conclusions about the damage suffered by Ferrari, not knowing the impact that the 7GB of stolen data could have. But in all likelihood, the company will run security analyzes and then explain the situation. We will keep you updated should further information arrive.
