In June Oppo gave us a taste of the Reno 8 Series, with the Reno 8 Lite that convinced us thanks to its careful design, good performance and great autonomy. At the end of August, however, the real protagonists of the family arrived: Reno 8 and Reno 8 Pro. Are you curious to know what they offer and what changes? We tell you about it in this comparison.
The Oppo Reno 8 Series
As anticipated, the Oppo Reno 8 Series consists of 3 smartphones:

- Oppo Reno 8which costs 599,99 €;
- Oppo Reno 8 Prowhich you find on the market a 799,99 €.
The last two, technical data sheets in hand, might seem very similar, yet they have a gap of 200 euros. What is it due to?
Design
Aesthetically, Oppo Reno 8 and Oppo Reno 8 Pro are really very similareven if the colors proposed are different: Glazed Black e Glazed Green for the Pro while Reno 8 offers variants Shimmer Gold e Shimmer Black.
The dimensions are similar, even if the younger brother is slightly smaller and lighter. On the Pro it also grows the camera module, larger and thicker, albeit very little.
“Bigger” doesn’t mean with more sensors though. The photographic sector is in fact the same: 50 megapixel main sensor, 8 megapixel ultra wide angle and 2 megapixel macro.
On the front instead we have two 32 megapixel cameras, with Oppo Reno 8 Pro sporting a central hole against the side hole of Reno 8.

What has been said so far could lead you to conclude that the two devices of the Chinese giant do exactly the same things. Instead it is not like that.
Reno 8 Pro integrates the Marisilicon X, a chip that deals only with the processing and optimization of the photographic sector.

What changes? In general Reno 8 Pro gives us more natural shots, both with and without artificial intelligence. And this applies to all sensors, main and ultra-wide angle in the first place.
The eldest of the family also boasts a faster and more performing autofocus, even when the subject is very close.
In any case the quality remains high on both: the photos are sharp, with good color rendering and lots of detail, with the Pro holding a little more shadows than its younger brother.

Performance
No, they don’t have the same processor. On Oppo Reno 8 Pro we find a MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX while on Reno 8 we have the MediaTek Dimensity 1300, both accompanied by 8 GB of RAM.
Performance is excellent on both: in daily use they are quick, reactive, ready for anything. However, they are not the same. Benchmark in hand, the Pro certainly gives us something more, especially when it comes to playing with some challenging title.
Don’t get us wrong: the younger brother can do everything, even play games, but there is a difference between the two smartphones and it is undeniable.
Memory cuts also change, 128 GB on the “little one” and 256 GB on the Pro, while the connectivity is the same: 5G, Dual SIM support, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, Type-C, GPS… Nothing is missing.
The fingerprint reader is also identical, fast and precise, as well as the autonomy, with the 4,500 mAh battery that helps you cover a full day, one and a half days with moderate use.
Both also benefit from the SuperVOOC a 80Wso go from 0 to 100% in 30 minutes.
On the other hand, the audio sector is different, which is stereo on Oppo Reno 8 Pro and mono on Reno 8.
Display
We have said that the autonomy is almost identical, yet the processor is different, above all, the display is different.
They both have an AMOLED panel with FullHD + resolution, which however is 6.7 “on the Pro and 6.4” on the younger brother. Then change the refresh rate, which reaches 120 Hz on the largest of the family and 90 Hz on the Reno 8.
The yield is very good on both but Oppo Reno 8 Pro offers something more in terms of fluidity, brightness and even color range, with 1.07 billion colors against the 16.7 million of the younger brother.
These are all elements that you only notice when you place them side by side but know that there is a difference and it is tangible.
Oppo Reno 8 vs Oppo Reno 8 Pro: which one should I buy?
Oppo Reno 8 and Oppo Reno 8 Pro are two excellent smartphones. They behave excellently in any situation, have a good photographic sector, excellent autonomy, a nice display … In short, there are no particular defects to report. It’s true, 4K videos only go up to 30 fps but honestly it’s not a limitation we suffered from, also because most of the videos, from personal ones to IG Stories, we shoot them in FullHD. Not to mention that, if you want a real cameraphone, complete from any point of view, the right choice – staying in the Oppo house – is Find X5 Pro, which is a smart smartphone. Mr with a proper capital S. Reno 8 and 8 Pro are still suitable for the production of video and photographic content but, compared to the super top of the range, they mitigate the price. And this obviously implies some small absence compared to the Find X5 Pro.
Which one to buy? Well, Reno 8 does it all. If you want to save it is perfect because it does not involve big sacrifices and it behaves great. If you want something more in terms of display, camera and performance, then the Pro is the right choice. The differences, you have seen them, are not abysmal but sufficient to justify the 200 euro difference, especially considering that on board we have the Marisilicon X which until yesterday was reserved for the top of the range.
