Champions, the new film starring Woody Harrelson, who deals with a mentally disabled basketball team, will be released in March
After being nominated three times for an Academy Award, Woody Harrelson returns with a nice comedy, in the company of a special basketball team: gods children with mental disabilities. Let’s find out a few more details about the film Championswhose trailer has just been released.
Champions: the plot
Marcus is a temperamental minor league basketball coach. After countless defeats, the man is fired, as well as getting into legal trouble after crashing into a police car. He is then forced by the court to perform a service for the community: to coach a group of young boys with intellectual disabilities. Initially skeptical, the man will learn to appreciate his new team, their way of seeing the world and showing affection, coming to understand that his new players are much smarter than he thought.
Champions: the cast of the film
As Marcus we will find Woody Harrelson, a well-known actor also thanks to the various nominations for prestigious awards. Harrelson was in fact nominated for three Academy Awards, as well as being an Emmy winner for his performance in the sitcom Cheers (1982-1993). Alongside him, we find Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters: Legacy, 2021), Cheech Marin (Escape from Christmas, 2004) e Kaitlin Olson (Bodies of crime, 2013). Also in the cast are Alexandra Castillo, Alicia Johnston, Matt Cook, Madison Tevlin, Kevin Iannucci, Ashton Gunning, Matthew Von Der Ahe, James Day Keith, Casey Metcalfe, Bradley Edens.
The new cute comedy is directed by Bobby Farrelly, in his directorial debut, known for having co-directed many films with his brother Peter. Theirs are very famous Dumb and dumber (1994) e Crazy about Mary (1998). Farrelly previously worked with Woody Harrelson on the film Kingping (1996). In this new production Bobby is also joined by Mark Rizzowho wrote the play.
We just have to wait for the release of Champions, scheduled for March 24, 2023 and find out how the theme of disability will be treated through a comic gaze.
