Double digit, double title: December 10 pre-Christmas review brings us back to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
If our Francesco Messina, awarded the honor of judging Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furyopened his review calling it “the joy of video games” there must be a reason. And, there’s no way around it, there are two reasons. The first is a port, which as we hinted at yesterday wins over Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for a more forgiving enemy bouncing mechanic. On the second reason, the massive presence of new contents, we will arrive over time; for now we’d rather spend a few (good) words on the base game.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, tenth review of the Nintendo Switch Calendar
by itself, Super Mario 3D World already worth the ticket price alone. We also said the same about Galaxy, which however was penalized by a context that had already been properly explored. What about 3D World, then? Simply, the game adapts the level design already seen in 3D Land on Nintendo 3DS, proposing the linearity of a classic Mario in a three-dimensional key, with power-ups and all. However, the ambition has taken over: shots with spectacular focus, multiplayer and co-op, multiple characters with different abilities, and everything needed to give the adventure all the replayability of this world. Trust me, completionists know it well.
The flagship, however, is a seed and responds to the name of Bowser’s Fury. As the youtuber also said Arlo, the game is an excellent blueprint for the future platforming of the Grande N mustache. Trying to set an adventure in a single open world is as ambitious a level design choice as the idea of interrupting the flow of gameplay with attacks occasional Furious Bowser. Marrying the open world with power-ups hitherto relegated to linear adventures was a real gamble. A choice that paid off, however, resulting in an interpretation by Mario that we can’t wait to see again.
