“Unstoppable” is now the only adjective with which to describe Nintendo Switch: fiscal year 2020-2021 closes with astronomical sales
We talk about it every Monday, and the fruits were not long in coming: Nintendo Switch closed the last fiscal year of the Big N with out of range results. Let’s talk about 84.59 million consoles shipped at the end of the period, which we recall ended on March 31, 2021, thus exceeding the result of 79.87 million reached on December 31 last. As for pure sales, at the end of March over 81 million consoles flew off the shelves, for a profit of 6.04 billion dollars: this is the highest record ever achieved by Nintendo, making Wii the only milestone yet. not passed.
Nintendo’s big, fat fiscal year
The fiscal year 2020-2021, therefore, proved to be a real tree of luck for the sales of Nintendo Switch. An increase of 81.8% over the previous year is by no means a trivial matter, but it bodes well for Furukawa’s forecasts. The current goal is to aim for the sale of another 25 and a half million consoles, while the games sold reached the threshold of 230 (almost 231) million copies. 36 of the Switch games sold over one million copies in one year, 22 of which were first-party exclusives and the other 14 were not. Above these, the goal of Animal Crossing: New Horizons compared to 20.85 million copies placed on the market.
We will report the full ranking below, but we will limit ourselves only to reporting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the current blockbuster throughout its life cycle, Super Mario 3D All-Stars for the nine million copies achieved despite (or because of) the limited edition e Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury for the 5.59 million copies sold in just one month and a half of life. Nintendo currently aims to sell 190 million games by next March. The Big N preferred to refrain from any comment on the “Pro” model at the center of countless rumors; production, according to Nikkei, has increased with the target of 30 million units for the current fiscal year.
