Many new ones Apple-branded products arriving in 2023: AR/VR glasses, new iPhones, MacBooks, iMacs, headphones, HomePods, Apple Watches, and finally iPads.
Apple 2023: AR/VR glasses
Apple has been working on the AR/VR glasses for more than five years and 2023 is finally the year that the initial version should make its appearance. AR/VR means both augmented and virtual reality, therefore “mixed” reality. It combines virtual reality and augmented reality, in some cases overlaying virtual objects onto the real world, though most rumors say it will focus more on virtual experiences. The AR/VR viewer could be called Reality Pro or Reality One, but the final naming hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Design
Apple’s AR/VR headset is expected to look like other VR headsets on the market, with a curved front display covering the eyes. The display will sit against the face using a mesh material and will feature interchangeable and adjustable bands similar to those on the Apple Watch.
The headset is designed to be lightweight and should be lighter than most headsets currently on the market to make it more comfortable to wear.
There may be physical controls and built-in audio capabilities, plus there will be more cameras to detect gestures, hand movements, eye movements and your surroundings.
The mixed reality glasses will include two display micro OLED 4K high resolution with up to 3,000 pixels. It seems there is also an external display.
Capacity
Apple is expected to add more than a dozen optical cameras to the viewer to map the environment, monitor the user, and project visual experiences. In virtual reality apps and games, the headset will be able to capture accurate facial movements, broadcasting them in video chats and other interactions.
The iris scan may be included as an authentication and security mechanism similar to how Face ID and Touch ID work. Inside, it will feature Apple-designed chips that are on par with the chips used in the MacBook Air. It will include a high-end main processor along with a less powerful sensor management processor.
Operating system and features
The AR/VR headset will be running an operating system that could be called xrOSwhich stands for the concept of extended reality that represents both the augmented reality and virtual reality functions of the device.
Apple should create an App Store for this type of glasses, with particular attention to gamesallo streaming of video content and the communication. Apple may work with media partners to create content that can be watched in VR, and there may be a FaceTime VR experience with Animojis that mirror facial expressions.
Apple may also work with game developers to create VR games for headsets and is expected to integrate heavily with existing services like Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade.
Price and release date
The cost is expected to be approx $ 3.000 and the first version will not be aimed at general consumers, but positioned as a device for developers, content creators and professionals.
As for the release date, it could be announced as early as January 2023, but this information is likely to be too optimistic.
Apple 2023: iPhone 15
Another flagship Apple product in 2023 will be the iPhone. Rumors say that Apple will release iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro e iPhone 15 Pro Max. The latter device though could get a new name, that is “iPhone 15 Ultra“, to reflect its position as the highest-end iPhone available.
Size and design
The iPhone 15 models are expected to be the same size (Apple won’t go back to the 5.4-inch iPhone mini), so we can expect two 6.1-inch iPhones and two 6.7-inch iPhones. At the moment, there are no significant design updates, just a new design that is more rounded than the previous ones.
There is talk of a possible titanium chassis for the Pro models, as well as solid-state volume and power buttons that would be similar to the Home button on Touch ID iPhones.
In 2023, all new iPhones should support Dynamic Island which is limited to iPhone 14 Pro models as of now.
USB-C
It appears that Apple is moving away from Lightning and is ready to adopt instead USB-C, the same connector already used for Mac and iPad. USB-C will enable universal charging across most of Apple’s range of devices. On some models it may allow for faster charging speeds.
periscope photocamera
The technology of Periscope camera it should be the major update for the iPhone 15 models, but the periscope lens may be limited to the iPhone 15 “Pro” or “Ultra”.
The periscope lens will replace the telephoto lens and allow for improved optical zoom. Apple should implement one 6x optical zoomcompared to 3x in current iPhone 14 Pro models.
Apple should adopt Sony’s image sensors for iPhone 15 models with more light to improve both underexposure and overexposure. The sensor will allow for improvements in portraits and other images where strong backlighting can be a problem.
Chip A17
Apple will use A16 chips for standard iPhone 15 models, but iPhone 15 Pro models may get the chip A17 Apple’s next-generation node, the first built on TSMC’s next-generation 3-nanometer node.
The 3nm chip technology will boost computing performance by 10 to 15 percent while reducing power consumption by up to 30 percent.
RAM
The iPhone 15 Pro models may offer 8 GB in RAMcompared to 6GB in the current iPhone 14 Pro models.
Apple 2023: MacBook
Almost the entire MacBook range will be updated: Apple will introduce a series of new features in 2023.
Mac Pro
Apple is working on a new version of the Mac Pro, but it took some time to develop because Apple’s silicon chips had to evolve before they could replace the chip Xeon Intel’s high-end.
There are said to be no notable design changes to the Mac Pro, which currently uses a stainless steel chassis and an aluminum housing with interlocking three-dimensional hemispheres for heat dissipation.
What will certainly be new is the Apple silicon chip technology inside, with Apple expected to use a chip M2 Ultra, an iteration of the M1. It could fit up to a 24-core CPU, up to a 76-core GPU, and up to 192GB of RAM, possibly more.
There’s no word on when exactly the Mac Pro will arrive, but so far rumors suggest it could arrive early this year.
MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch
There were no model updates MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch in 2022, which should happen in 2023. No design changes are expected as the latest design change came in 2021, however there should be new Apple silicon chips.
The updated MacBook Pro models are expected to feature the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, upgrades from the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips used in previous generation models. Rumors suggest that the M2 Max chip will feature up to 12-core CPU and up to 12-core GPU 38 core.
MacBook Air 15 inch
The current MacBook Air measures 13.6 inches, but Apple is working on a larger 15-inch version that would fit between the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
Not much is said yet about the 15-inch MacBook Air, but it is expected to use the same general design as the 2022 13-inch MacBook Air with flat edges, a large Force Touch trackpad, a keyboard with function keys, and no fans.
It is not intended to include a display technology mini-LED o ProMotionas Apple will reserve those features for higher-end MacBook Pro models.
Mac mini
Not much is known about the Mac mini, which means it will likely get an update followed by a new design.
The Mac mini will use Apple’s M2 and M2 Pro chips. The M2 was already introduced in the MacBook Air, while the M2 Pro is yet to be launched. The timing of the launch of a new Mac mini is unclear, although some reports have pointed to the first half of the year.
iMac
The 24-inch iMac was updated in 2021, so an update is needed right now. An updated version would probably get the chip M3 by Apple, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, but no major design updates.
There are also rumors that Apple is working on a larger screen version of the iMac that would bring back the larger iMac option, but little is known about that. It’s possible that this larger iMac could feature M3 Pro and M3 Max chip options and be a iMac “Pro”replacing the discontinued 2017 machine that never had a successor.
Aside from a possible 2023 launch date, nothing else is known about the timing of the updated 24-inch iMac or the debut of a 24-inch iMac 27 inches.
