Through a press release, Trent Film has announced the release in Italian cinemas of The Fruit of Late Summer, the film that represented Tunisia at the 2023 Oscars: here is the trailer
Trent Film has announced that Erige Sehiri’s The Fruit of Late Summer will arrive in Italian cinemas from 23 March under its distribution. The film will be screened as the opening film of the 32nd edition of the FESCAAAL (Festival of African, Asian and Latin American Cinema) on Sunday 19 March at the Cinema Fondazione Prada in Milan. Presented in world premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight at the 2022 Cannes Film Festivalscreened at the 45th Toronto Film Festival in the Contemporary World Cinema section and at the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2023, the film was awarded at the Final Cut in Venice workshop at the 78th edition of the Venice Film Festival and was selected by Tunisia for the Oscar 2023 as Best International Film, collecting over 25 selections in many of the most prestigious international festivals.
The French-Tunisian director Erige Sehiri, here at his first fiction film, directs a story immersed in the warm light of summer that speaks of female solidarity, resistance against patriarchal tradition and conflict between generations, set in a suggestive Tunisian orchard where a group of women and girls are dedicated to picking figs at the end of the season summer. During the day the orchard becomes a theater of emotions, a place where the dreams and hopes of a modern and freer generation pass, alongside a more disconsolate previous one, anchored to traditions.
