When we think of digital app stores, our mind inevitably goes to the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Nevertheless Microsoft seems to want to carve out its place on the market, announcing today the will to launch a digital store entirely dedicated to mobile games.
It is to announce it Phil Spencernumber one of Xbox, who explained to the microphones of the Financial Times that the project will be launched next year, favored by the entry into force in 2024 of the Digital Market Act (DMA) of the EU.
“We want to bring Xbox content and third-party games to all screens,” Spencer said. “Today we can’t do it on mobile devices, but we want to lay the foundations for this to be possible in the future”.

Microsoft’s intention to launch its own store comes after a particularly troubled year for the entire market. The authorities and guarantors of individual countries have had a lot to do, especially with Apple, which prevented access to payment services outside the App Store. The giant with the big bitten apple has also caused some problems for Microsoft’s own cloud gaming, which it has now decided to solve in its own way, with its own platform.
Despite this, Microsoft still has a lot of problems to solve on its own. Among the company’s priorities is certainly unlocking the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which has been frozen by the authorities for more than a year. In the meantime, Microsoft will bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo consoles for 10 years if the deal is approved.
