Samsung allegedly banned the use of ChatGPT and other generative AI platforms to its employees. The company’s internal ban would have come after discovering that some staff members would have uploaded internal source code to ChatGPTas reported by Bloomberg.
Samsung bans ChatGPT and other AIs for employees
South Korean society would be concerned about the security of user data that is stored on external servers of AI platforms and which may be exposed to other users. For this, Samsung reportedly sent a memo on Monday to one of its largest divisions to prohibit the use of ChatGPT and Google Bard on devices and on the company network.
The company is quoted as saying that interest in generative AI platforms is on the rise, but so are the security risks. Samsung’s new policy is not about consumers, chand can use BingAI based on the ChatGPT built into Microsoft’s SwiftKey keyboard, which is the one that comes pre-installed with OneUI.
Samsung has warned its employees to follow safety guidelines and said it will the violation could lead to a loss or compromise of company information.
According to Bloomberg, Samsung is also reportedly creating its own artificial intelligence tools to translate and summarize documents, as well as develop the software. These tools may only be used within the company. Samsung has not yet said whether it will offer consumers any of its generative AI products. For now, there are no signs of this from the company. But internal tools could guarantee security and privacy in using AI to write business code and documents.
