The interior of the new BMW series 5 presents a number of greatly reduced buttons and controls compared to the previous model. This result was achieved thanks to the constant digitization of the functions. The BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand’s typical driver orientation. The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has also been redesigned with a flattened bottom section and haptic feedback on the control panels and gear lever on the center console. A another strong point is the BMW Interaction Bar. The backlit functional unit with a crystalline surface extends across the entire width of the instrument cluster to the door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.
An absolute first for BMW: a completely vegan interior
The newly developed sports seats are standard. The optional comfort seats offer a wide range of electrically operated adjustment options. This includes the surfaces of the seats, dashboard and door panels as well as, for the first time ever, the steering wheel. The seat surfaces in the Veganza version with leather-like properties are also optionally available with a decorative perforation. Further optional equipment includes BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery in various two-tone variants.

The top model: the fully electric BMW i5 M60 xDrive
The all-electric BMW i5 features the vastly enhanced fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and will be available in two variants. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive (combined energy consumption according to WLTP: 20.6 – 18.2 kWh/100 km), which combines an output of 442 kW/601 hp * with M-typical performance and specific design features. Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axle form an electric all-wheel drive. The torque generated by the system reaches 820 Nm (605 lb-ft)* when M Sport Boost or M Launch Control is activated. This enables the BMW i5 M60 to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, while top speed is electrically limited to 230 km/h (143 mph).
Also available is the BMW i5 eDrive40 (combined consumption according to WLTP: 19.5 – 15.9 kWh/100 km). Its electric motor drives the rear wheels and generates a maximum power of 250 kW/340 hp and a maximum torque of 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) with Sport Boost or Launch Control function. The BMW i5 eDrive40 accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 193 km/h.
The space-saving high-voltage battery is located in the underbody and supplies a usable energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the efficient electric motors, the latest version of adaptive recuperation and an intelligent combination of heat pump technology for heating and cooling the passenger compartment, transmission and high-voltage battery contribute to the long range. The respective WLTP values are 455 – 516 kilometers (282 – 320 miles) for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive and 477 – 582 kilometers (296 – 361 miles) for the BMW i5 eDrive40. With the new MAX RANGE function, the range can be increased by up to 25% if necessary, by limiting power and speed and by deactivating the comfort functions.
