Here’s everything you need to know about who can be present in the context of Venice 80.
Luca Guadagnino with Challengers
The first of the films present at the Venice Film Festival 2023 will be Challengers, by Luca Guadagninowhich returns again to the context of the lagoon after his experience in Venice 79. As explained on Chronist.it, in fact, the Italian author who became famous all over the world for Call me by your name and the remake of Sighs was present in Venice, in 2022, with Bones and All, a horror film that saw the actor Timothée Chalamet engaged in the role of the protagonist.
To be present together with Luca Guadagnino in 2023 is Zendayaactress who became famous for Euphoria and her role as MJ in Spider-Man with Tom Holland. The film in question Challengers, will open the 2023 Venice Film Festival and will be screened in the Sala Grande on 30 August 2023, on the first day of the event.
Yorgos Lanthimos con Poor Things
Speaking of big names, certainly the most anticipated is that of Yorgos Lanthimos, who returns to Venice after the great success of The favourite. The Greek director has now become famous all over the world for his shocking works full of extraordinary aesthetics, which have been able to conquer spectators of all kinds and which, above all, have also brought together lovers of a different cinema from a sensorial point of view .
With jobs like Dogtooth, The Lobster, The Sacrifice of the Sacred Deer and the previously mentioned La Favorita the success can only have been consequential, for a constantly discussed director who hardly disappoints and who, even on the occasion of 2023, seems to promise a lot with his Povere Creature. If an authorial signature of this kind were not enough, it will be enough to think that – in the cast – there are the faces of Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo.
Michael Mann con Ferrari
With the announcement of Ferrari’s release date, in US cinemas starting on December 25, 2023, the presence of Michael Mann in Venice 2023 with Ferrari, film that sees Adam Driver in the role of the protagonist. In reality, although it is not yet official, the indiscretion in question had been bouncing around for a few weeks, since one of the executive producers of the film – Juul’s Niels – he had expressed himself on social media explaining that he would be present in Venice with Ferrari. As for the film, the great attention paid to a product that is often compared, for intentions, to Lamborghini – The Man Behind The Legend, but which shares nothing with the film on Amazon Prime Video, given the skillful hand of the director and, above all, the great quality of Adam Driver.
Woody Allen con Stroke of luck
The last of the films that will most likely be present in the context of the Venice Film Festival is Lucky Strike by Woody Allen. Il 50th film by the extraordinary director it will also be the first (and perhaps last, should he decide to retire) in French, with very few presentations to offer on the subject. Not having switched to Cannes 2023its presence in Venice is almost certain as a preview, in an ideal context for the film and for its director.
