Henry Selik, director of the animated classic The Nightmare Before Christmas, in an interview with People, says he is against making a sequel to the film
From time to time the trend of talking about a comes back online potential sequel to the animated classic Nightmare Before Christmas. However, although the stop-motion film created by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick has actually become a cult, in the thirty years that separate us from its release, nothing of the sort ever materialized. In an interview with People, Henry Selick stated that, in his view, it would be more interesting to see a prequel to Nightmare Before Christmas. The director explains why the work does not need any chapter 2 with the following words:
It’s a perfect film that came out at the right time, and then grew into something much bigger over the years. I think Tim, in particular, thinks: why mess with this? He certainly doesn’t need to make more money from a sequel. He has had so many other successes and so far no one has come up with any great idea for a sequel. And I still think it’s up to Tim to decide. I don’t think there is an idea that would convince him.
Nightmare Before Christmas, according to the director it would be better to have a prequel rather than a sequel
The Nightmare Before Christmas was the first stop-motion animated feature film to achieve success with audiences. The plot revolves around the story of Jack Skellington, governor of the Land of Halloween, populated by monsters and other bizarre creatures who, tired of the usual routine, decides to venture out in search of new stimuli, coming across the Christmas City. However, Selik then added that it could be interesting instead tell how Jack became the King of Halloween Land. The idea of a prequel would also be supported by Chris Sarandon, the original voice actor of Jack Skellington. Even if Selik himself thinks that it is really difficult to think of being able to replicate a success like that of the original animated cult.
