AGM H6 review: the economical rugged!

Packaging and build quality | AGM H6 review

Like any self-respecting rugged, the AGM H6 also arrives in a package and body that lives up to expectations. Regarding the first, together with the smartphone we find: the10W power supply, the USB Type-C data cable, a protective film and the user manuals. The construction quality is equally high, AGM H6 in fact brings with it all the peculiar “rugged” characteristics; among these the rubberized external protection capable of absorbing shocks well, a slight frontal rise for the display and a side hole with which you can attach the smartphone using a strap.

In short, nothing is left to chance in a device capable of withstanding even the most extreme situations, thanks to the IP68/69K certification against water and dust and the standard MIL-STD-810H. Finally, in addition to the typical power and volume balance buttons, we find a on the left side programmable button chosen by the user (flashlight, camera, etc.), which however strangely only works when the device is turned on.

Hardware e display | Review AGM H6

AGM H6 mounted a SoC Unisoc Tiger T606 4G and 8 GB of RAM that can be virtually expanded (a practice we do not recommend). Added to this is 256 GB of storage memory UFS 2.2, fast enough for any type of operation. The hardware itself is not particularly surprising, however, thanks to the software on board (lightweight and without any type of bloatware) the resulting performance is more than satisfactory, especially considering the type of product and the price range. Traveling between one app and another is always extremely fluidbut forget about gaming, at least for the more complex 3D titles.

The display is a IPS with colors that are not too bright and peak brightness of approximately 500 nits, just enough for use in direct sunlight. As with all other rugged devices, here too the display is not one of the strong points (a paradox given the predisposition of these devices for outdoor use). Inside it is then set a now dated teardrop notch, which would be passable in case of well-optimized frames, but this is not the case. However, the situation is resolved on a multimedia level audio sectorwhich despite the mono speaker, still manages to guarantee good sound performance.

Cameras | AGM H6 review

We know that rugged phones are not the best devices when it comes to photography, and this AGM H6 is unfortunately no exception. Despite the high numbers, like the Samsung JN1 main sensor from 50 MP, the actual results are hardly surprising. This is due to poor stabilization and color rendering.

Conditions improve significantly if you activate the HDR mode in the camera settings. Barely passable macros and selfies, with rather low detail. Similar speech for the videos, poorly stabilized and of decent quality, and for the camera software, really poco user friendly. Let’s be clear, we’re not talking about unusable shots, especially in a social landscape where the word ‘compression’ is the order of the day. Finally, a real shame not to find extra camerassuch as the much used night vision.

Software and autonomy | AGM H6 review

But this is where the AGM H6 amazes again, with an autonomy that is unthinkable given the module installed which is not particularly large (especially for a rugged device), in fact we are talking about 4,900mAh. They result always 2 days of intense use, really useful in case of excursions or trips out of town, or more depending on use. And be careful, because this time the autonomy is not paid for in ergonomics, in fact the device is just 10mm thick, for a total weight of just 240g.

Equally excellent is the software, based on Android 13which as mentioned offers amazing performances and unparalleled ease of use. No kind of bloatware and always impeccable animations, factors not to be underestimated on a rugged device. The only unknown is the system updates, for which there is no certain information.

Conclusions and price

AGM H6 is a smartphone that doesn’t attract much on paper, but which amazes in daily use thanks to solid performance, streamlined software and lots of memory. It’s a shame about the cameras not being up to par or the display not being exceptional, otherwise it remains a more than recommended device at the right price.

For the moment, AGM H6 is listed at €269.99 on the official website. Did it convince you? Before saying goodbye, we invite you to follow the mobile section of techgameworld.com for further news and video reviews. See you soon!
