A white white day – Secrets in the fog: plot and details
The film is set in an isolated and remote Icelandic city. A profound inner diatribe made up of revenge, the search for truth and unconditional love.
The main character is Ingimundur (interpreted by Ingvar Sigurdsson) former police chief on leave after the disappearance of his wife in an unexplained car accident. The sudden discovery of a box with some personal effects of the deceased woman changes the vision of the desperate widower.
Suspicious of a possible betrayal of her and of the secrets never told; Ingimundur begins a backward journey made up of uncertainties and the search for truth. An animalistic feeling, made of hate and love it makes its way into him, to the point of putting himself and others dear to him in danger. As stated by the director himself Hlynur Pàlmason:
It is something completely different, it is more complex, intimate, animalistic and something unique that you don’t have with anyone else. I think the film is a story of love and hate at the same time because the best thoughts are often close to the darkest ones. The people you love and adore often experience your worst sides and the line between loving someone and hating someone is very thin.
Appreciated by the European market, it has won around 20 international awards including: Rising Star Award at the Cannes Film Festival; as well as an application received to the European Film Awards.
