Acer updates its lineup of gaming laptops. And we have previewed the new Nitro 5 2022, here is our proof

The latest gaming notebook models presented by the Taiwanese manufacturer were equipped with 12Gen Intel Core i7, soon Acer will update its Lineup with new models this time equipped with CPU AMD, focusing more and more on the gaming side, with an eye on performance in general.

This is a hands-on, which is why you will not see specific tests, benchmarks, and the like, as we are faced with a Pre-production model, a sample that serves to understand its potential, and get an idea of what it will be. Acer’s future offering on this range, which should soon arrive on the market in a defined version. So we are going to tell general aspects and first impressions of this laptop. Obviously, it is not known at the moment price and availability.

Design | Acer Nitro 5 2022 preview

The Design chosen by Acer inevitably recalls the Nitro series, and does not upset it. The aesthetic is aggressive and emphasizes the red color. On the Display Panel we see a colored striped design, and the Acer embossed writing. On bottom instead we have a large entrance area for the Air Flowe 4 fairly large rubber pads on the sides.

The opening of the Display also takes place with one hand, as the Display moves on two hinges that are placed more internally than the total case., and on the hinge bar we see the writing Nitro. It is behind that we then have the air expulsion grilles flush with the two fans placed on both sides. Instead, we have 3 inputs in the center, namely the AC power input, a USB-C port, and an HDMI 2.1 input. On the left side we have another ventilation grill, a door for a cable Etherneta USB-A port and a Jack input. On the right side, in addition to the ventilation grid, we have others due USB-A.

The laptop cases are placed on the 2 front sides, below, this is not good as usually this design tends to hide the sound making it darker, it also depends a lot on the surface on which it is placed. But in this case, I have to say that the sound is full-bodied and discreet, with a sufficiently high volume.

The grilles that are on the front are dedicated to Air Flow to favor the flow of incoming air and then expel it from the sides and rear. The hinges of the Display are resistant, but in the upper part it flexes to even modest stresses. The laptop weighs 2.4Kg measured. The model in question is indicated with the initials “an515-46”.

Touchpad and keyboard | Acer Nitro 5 2022 preview

The Touchpads present on the vast majority of laptops equipped with Windows, have not always been able to fully convince, with some problems with absent or “hard” clicks at the top, or little flexibility in gestures for a matter of scrolling. In this case this is not the case, the Touchpad is very good, very good sensitivity at every point. He always managed to take every gesture or faster movement. It measures 105 mm in width, and 78 mm in height.

The stroke of the keys is 1.70mm, the feedback as you type is great, and it is pleasant to write, there are no typos, also because the keys are well spaced. The keyboard is membrane, and is backlit, with only the red color. There is the number pad and the Acer Predator Sense key. If pressed, it will start a utility from which we can manage different values and intervene on fans, keyboard and much more.

Display e Webcam

The Display is of the IPS type, with size from 15.6 inches, and WQHD resolution (2560×1440), is obviously compatible with the G-Syncand is able to achieve the 165 Hz. The colors are well calibrated and balanced, too bad for the viewing angles, which given the IPS type, are not optimal. Good maximum brightness, with a fairly good readability under the sun, also given by the matte display. The Webcam in contrast with most laptops of this range has an excellent resolution and manages to pull good results even in poor light conditions.

How does it go in use?

This Acer Nitro 5 2022 on board has a processor that is not defined, it is an engineering Sample, being a Pre-production model, in fact it is indicated with the acronym AMD Eng Sample 100-00000561-40Y. Most likely it is a TSMC’s Ryzen 6000 Series 6nmwe deduced it from CPU-zindicating the CPU Revision with Rembrandt. Could it be a Ryzen 6800? We don’t know, but we do know it’s equipped with 8 core e 16 thread. We then observed the frequencies with different software, which fluctuated from a minimum of 4.1 GHz, to a maximum recorded of 4.5 GHZ, under stress instead, it always remained fixed at 4.2 GHz.

They are then present 16 GB of DDR5, from 4600 MHz, and this could corroborate the intuition of the AMD Rembrandt CPU familytherefore, it could be a 6800H, like a 6800HS or a 6800U. The processor has been paired to a GeForce 3060, 6 GB of type GDDR6. We have two 512GB NVME M.2 SSDs on board, a main one dedicated to the central operating system, and another for a secondary storage. SSD Both driven by controller Micron.

In terms of performance, the CPU is very fast in typical Office activities, in Web browsing, and in multimedia useassisted by an excellent Wi-Fi chip with Killer AX 1650i controller and Wi-Fi 6 support. If the game becomes more demanding, the CPU responds very well on this front too, which is always snappy and performing. We put the CPU under pressure with editing software, photo editing and some benchmarks, if in activities with demanding software the performance always remained at excellent levels without ever uncertainty. or stumbling blocks, the anomalous behavior is that with specific benchmarks the result obtained did not reflect these performances.

Let’s sum it up

We obviously tested the laptop with different titles as well, and both in Full HD and WQHD the performance was always excellent, a very good overall performance, Rocket League managed to run even at medium-high details in WQHD.

The battery is a 50 Wh modulewith 230 Watt power supply, a monster of about 980 grams, almost one Kg. It takes about 4/4 and a half hours to fully recharge, at least in our case though, we noticed that the battery lasted quite short, even for just simple daily activities. We believe it is determined by the fact that it is still in the optimization phase at a deep software level, however we have noticed that the consumption increases considerably when the GeForce comes into play, and that the performance certainly undergoes a slight drop with the integrated GPU, but it definitely improves the performance / consumption ratio, so it is a very interesting choice.

Acer Nitro 5 2022: our preview test!

As for the integrated GPU, several software have read the same with 512 shading unit, therefore identified as Radeonwe believe it is a misreading as the future Ryzen series will instead be equipped with RDNA 2 architecture with 768 compute units, and will almost certainly be Radeon 660 and 680M.

This was all for the future Acer Nitro 5 2022. In short, the preliminary test of this laptop is interestingin general he defended himself well on several fronts, from equipment to performance, promises well, and we are looking forward to getting our hands on the final version that the brand will present shortly. That’s all for now, stay tuned for a future in-depth technical review, always on TechGameWorld.com.it.
