The public beta of DaVinci Resolve 18 is finally available for download but what’s new? In short, what does it offer the 2022 edition of Blackmagic Design software? Let’s find out all the news together.
DaVinci Resolve 18 tip on remote collaboration via cloud. By opening project libraries on Blackmagic Cloud you can collaborate on the same timeline in real time, with Blackmagic Proxy Generator which automatically creates H.264, H.265 or Apple ProRes proxies connected to the original camera files to speed up editing.
The new version of DaVinci Resolve also offers an intelligent multimedia management system for Quickly connect material to file paths when collaborating on a project. There is no longer any need for relinking or manually searching for resources when working remotely.
Multi-user collaboration becomes even more effective when using a secure private network, with instant notifications that inform everyone of the changes made in terms of editing and color correction. All this to help the team make immediate creative decisions, which go hand in hand with the work of everyone involved in the project.
We also report the presence on DaVinci Resolve Studio of the viewer and display, which can be viewed in live streaming on the monitor of a remote computer or on the grading monitor via DeckLink anywhere in the world.
However, the novelties are not limited to collaboration alone. The new one is available Object Maskcapable of recognizing and tracking the movement of thousands of distinct objects. DaVinci Neural Network intuitively isolate animals, vehicles, people, food and countless other elements to make advanced secondary color corrections and apply effects.
They then debuted the new Depth Map effectwhich instantly generates a 3D depth matte of the scene to correct the background and foreground separately and quickly, and theSurface Tracker effect, to apply graphics on surfaces that change shape or perspective radically such as t-shirts, flags and even faces.
DaVinci Resolve 18 also introduces Ultra Beatuy, which acts on imperfections by smoothing the skin and recovering details to produce natural results.
The new version also brings with it an expanded subtitling system, capable of accepting TTML and XML text, as well as built-in MXF / IMF subtitles. Now you can read and import subtitles from the media library, create regions to allow simultaneous subtitles within the same track, and set default and text position for each character.
Transitions in categories Shape, Iris e Wipe della Effects Library now they have a checkbox to easily change its direction, so as to guarantee greater flexibility and creative freedom.
The multi-camera viewer includes the 5 × 5 option to view 25 angles of a multi-camera clip all at once; Text, Text + 1 and Shape templates offer better speed and playback performance on DaVinci Resolve 18 while Fusion templates are 200% faster thanks to new memory and data management.
On board too FlexBus, the flexible Fairlight audio bus and routing system to handle numerous tracks, offering plug-in intensive processing, seamless synchronization and distinct delivery versions. There is also the possibility to convert old Fairlight projects with fixed buses into Flexbus with a single click.
The news, however, does not end there. The Dolby Atmos toolset has been extended to allow rendering of binaural outputs from complex Dolby Atmos mixes. Dolby 7.1.4 mixes can now be rendered for playback in headphones while keeping the immersive sound experience alive from just two audio channels.
We also point out that DaVinci Resolve is natively compatible with the latest standard audio formats, including immersive ones such as Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D, MPEG-H, NHK 22.2, and SMPTE.
A number of new options improves collaboration by allowing editors to combine your edit into one timeline. Nested timelines can be decomposed with all tracking data, including FX and automation. Destinations can be connected with new buses, without having to assign existing routes or new tracks.
