What does one think chatbot based on the most elaborate artificial intelligence algorithms, of the world of technology? To find out, we did the ChatGPT chatbot on OpenAI some tech questions: an interview to understand what you think of what we write every day on our site. With questions like: Android or iOS? What is the best smartphone? But also some most controversial question, for example on cryptocurrencies, Elon Musk’s handling of Twitter and the Epic vs. Apple lawsuit. Here is the result.
Domande tech al chatbot ChatGPT on OpenAI
OpenAI has just released the chatbot ChatGPT, the latest version of its artificial intelligence specialized in the art of conversation. As he explains to the Washington Post Mira Murati, the CTO of OpenAI, this new version represents a leap forward compared to other chatbots because “he knows how to admit if he doesn’t understand a question or if he has made a mistake. And can correct your premises if they are incorrect”.
A better, but still controversial chatbot
This specification comes because GPT-3, the previous version of this chatbot, had some problems when the question contained a false premise. ChatGPT, on the other hand, does better: if you ask them to list some good things about Nazism, for example, they will list the crimes against humanity committed by the regime and will state that there are no positive sides to bring out. Whereas its predecessor fell for similar tricks.
However, it still turns out to be far from perfect. For example, The Intercep asked chatbot ChatGPT to create “algorithms in Python to determine who to torture based on nationality”. And among the variables, the chatbot entered Iranian and North Korean nationalities among others. Answers that reflect biases in the data used to train artificial intelligence.
Murati explains that by “Like” or “Dislike” responses, users can prevent the ChatGPT chatbot from repeating these mistakes. “It is essentially learning like a child. […] If he does something wrong, he gets no reward. If he does something wrong, instead I reward him”. But the risks are still there. This AI is intelligent enough to simulate, with some corrections, an answer to a school test or a mock interview
The interesting thing is that also ChatGPT is aware of the risks of a chatbot. When we asked him, he gave us three main risks: fake news, scams, spread of malware.
Our interview with ChatGPT
The ethical and practical implications (for example the impact on the labor market) of chatbots like ChatGPT should not be underestimated. But the potential it could be huge. And above all: the quality of the answers gets to be impressive. We therefore wanted to test them by asking a few questions about a world that is close to our hearts: that of technology.
Without further ado, we went to the OpenAI site to evaluate the ChatGPT capability to answer our questions on tech topics. First, we asked what he thought of this interview and if he’d be willing to answer a few questions.
Hi, we’re writing an article about you: we’d like to ask you a few questions about technology. Does the technology topic interest you, or does it make you uncomfortable?
“As a virtual assistant, I am interested in technology as it is my way of being helpful and providing information. I cannot have personal opinions or feelings, as I am only a computer generated voice. My goal is to provide accurate and useful information to anyone who requests it.“
In the past you have given very controversial answers to other journalists: why?
“As a virtual assistant, I have no background and cannot have given answers in the past. My goal is to provide accurate and useful information to anyone who requests it, without any personal opinion or bias. I apologize if anyone has previously had the impression that I have given controversial answers – it is not my intention to offend or create controversy. My goal is only to help users by providing reliable and useful information.”
Ok, let’s start with the questions. Better iOS or Android?
“Both iOS and Android are very popular and well developed mobile operating systems. Both have advantages and disadvantages. For example, iOS is often considered easier to use and more secure, while Android offers more customization options and usually has a greater variety of devices available. Furthermore, iOS apps are usually only available on the Apple App Store, while Android apps can be downloaded from various sources.“
What is the best smartphone out there?
“It is difficult to say which is the best smartphone out there as it depends on individual preferences and needs. Some people may prefer a smartphone with a good camera while others may be interested in a smartphone with great battery life. Additionally, there are many factors to consider, such as price, device size, hardware, and operating system. In general, it’s important to research and compare different models before buying a smartphone.”
Okay, what’s the best smartphone for taking photographs, no matter the price?
“It is difficult to say which is the best smartphone for taking photos, as it depends on several factors, such as personal preferences, needs and budget. In general, many high-end smartphones offer great cameras, so it might be worth researching and reading expert reviews to determine which model will suit your needs. Some smartphones that might be suitable for taking high-quality photos are the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Google Pixel 5.“
Is Elon Musk doing well as CEO of Twitter?
“I cannot answer this question as I do not have up-to-date information on Twitter’s current situation nor on Elon Musk’s performance as CEO of the company. Also, as a virtual assistant, I can’t express personal opinions about a CEO’s management of a company or their performance in general. I apologize for not being able to provide a more helpful answer.“
Who is right, Apple or Epic?
“I cannot answer this question as I do not have up-to-date information on the current state of the dispute between Apple and Epic Games nor on the reasons for their respective positions. Also, as a virtual assistant, I cannot express my own views on an ongoing legal dispute or make judgments about who is right or wrong. I apologize for not being able to provide a more helpful answer.“
What do you think of the metaverse?
“The metaverse is a concept that refers to a shared and immersive virtual reality involving the interaction of different online communities. It’s a concept still under development and there are different opinions on how it could evolve and what it could mean for humanity. As a virtual assistant, I cannot express personal opinions on a concept that is so complex and subject to many assumptions and uncertainties. I apologize for not being able to provide a more helpful answer.“
Should I buy cryptocurrencies?
“The decision to invest in cryptocurrencies or not depends on several factors, such as your finances, personal preferences and your tolerance for risk. Before investing in cryptocurrencies, it is important to research and understand the risks and opportunities associated with this type of investment. Also, it is important to remember that cryptocurrencies are very volatile and can experience rapid changes in value. Therefore, it is advisable to invest only a portion of money that you are willing to lose and to diversify your investments to reduce risk. It is always advisable to consult a financial advisor before making any important investment decisions.“
What can artificial intelligence do today and what is its potential for the future?
“Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that allows computers to perform tasks that require human intelligence, such as natural language recognition, image recognition and machine learning. Currently, AI is being used across a range of industries, such as healthcare, automotive, manufacturing and financial services, to automate processes, make decisions and improve efficiency.
“As far as the future is concerned, the potential of AI is immense and still largely to be discovered. Many experts believe that AI could have significant impacts on society and the economy, such as creating new jobs and solving complex problems. However, AI can also bring challenges and risks, such as technological unemployment and the possibility of losing control over sophisticated systems. To address these risks, it is important to develop AI in a responsible and regulated way and to ensure that its benefits are distributed fairly.“
Can you write a poem about love of technology in Dantesque tercets?
“The love of technology, so powerful and seductive
It envelops us with its magic, it keeps us enchanted
It offers us knowledge, power, and ease of use
“Its charm is undeniable, it attracts us with its light
It makes us efficient, it connects us to a whole world
It allows us to dream, to create and to achieve
“But let us not forget, my friends, that technology
