A foundling | Aperit-Hero: The Mandalorian, a loving father

As usual, let’s start from the beginning. Din Djarin was a war foundlingwho had survived a droid attack in which his parents lost their lives. It was a Mandalorian who saved himdecided to welcome little Din into the cult of the Mandalorians, according to which anyone who becomes a Mandalorian cannot take off his helmet in front of anyone. Din really owes a lot to the Mandalorians, it is thanks to them that he is still alive and he decides to become one of them to thank them for saving his life. After facing some trials and being baptized, Din Djarin thus becomes a Mandaloriano.

However, the way of the Mandalorian is just a lifestyle, in fact, to earn a living, Din becomes a mercenary. More precisely, become a member of the Bounty Hunters Guild. Thanks to the Guild, our mercenary got busy, becoming quite famous not only as a member of the Guild, but as a real assassin. Many feared him and those who dared to challenge him met a bad end, thanks to the incredible fighting skills that the Mandalorians taught them. His life, however, would change at any moment thanks to a bounty that he had accepted on a certain unknown subject, whose age was only known.

As we were saying, Din Djarin’s life changes when he accepts a bounty on a 50-year-old unknown subject wanted by many. That unknown subject was Groga small alien of the same unknown race he is part of Yoda. The little one was apparently wanted by many to be one of the last Jedi, but he was still too young to learn combat skills and the power of the force. Initially Din takes the little one with him and takes him to whoever entrusted him with the task to redeem the reward, Beskar armor. Gripped by guilt (and great empathy), Din decides to go back and get the little one back.

He was aware of what it would mean to do something like that, he knew that the whole Guild would go against him. But Din didn’t care, Grogu needed protection, also because he was an orphaned foundling, exactly like Din was as a child. Grogu reminded him of himself, a defenseless child who needed protection and as the Mandalorians had helped Din, he would help Grogu. From that point on both become wanted men. During their journey together in search of the child’s family, Din had more chances to settle down with a partner, having several flirtations, but he always gave priority to Grogu.

The renunciation of belief | Aperit-Hero: The Mandalorian, a loving father

Grogu represents the turning point of Din Djarin’s life. Before he was a man who worked as a bounty hunter and created no bond with anyone he met along the way. The Mandalorian only cared make money and survive, all obviously always wearing with honor the helmet with which the cult of the Mandalorians had baptized him. The path he had chosen to follow was his entire life and he didn’t care about anything else, the only thing that really mattered was continuing to honor his saviors, without ever taking off his helmet. That helmet was a symbol, never showing your face to anyone was the focus of the Mandalorians’ beliefs and he would never break it for anyone in the world.

But this was until our protagonist met little Grogu, who it lowered his defenses and made him human again. Din, in addition to giving up relationships and friendships, had also given up feelings. She didn’t allow herself a single moment in which he could satisfy his needs, always thinking about the next bounty to collect. He has never lived freely, he has always felt indebted to the Mandalorians, even if at the same time he used his abilities to defend those in need. But when Din was forced to entrust Grogu to Luke Skywalker, Grogu began to see him as his father and he in turn became fond of him. To such an extent that breaking the code of the Mandalorianstaking off his helmet and letting the little one see his face and touch it.

Choices have consequences | Aperit-Hero: The Mandalorian, a loving father

After parting ways with Grogu, Din becomes extremely violent and aggressive. The child was the only source of joy for our protagonist and no longer having him with him caused him great anger. An anger that even led him to clash with one of his own brothers, which made him lose control in front of theArmaiola, leader of the Mandalorians tribe. When the brother questioned Din Djarin’s loyalty to the creed, the latter confessed to having broken the code, which is why he was no longer a Mandalorian. Despite this, he continued to wear the armor and was defeated Moff Gideontook over the Darksaber. According to the culture of the Mandalorians, whoever took possession of it would become the new leader.

Din was aware of this, but after reuniting with Grogu, who had given up Jedi training under Luke Skywalker to be with Din, he did not accept the assignment. He preferred to leave the task to his friend and colleague Bo-Katan Kryze. Bo-Katan was power-hungry and initially an opponent of the Mandalorians, but after making peace with them, she became leader of the Mandalorians thanks to Din who gave it to him. The protagonist has never seen himself in the role of a leader, preferring instead to be the soldier who follows orders. But also because he always preferred to be with Grogu, who was eventually baptized by the Mandalorians. This baptism required that there was someone who taught him everything and acted as his father, and that was Din Djarin. That’s how it was Grogu Djarin became the son of Din Djarin.

This is the way

During the course of three seasons of The Mandalorian, we see the entire evolutionary path that the character of Din Djarin has had. Din went from being a lonely man who only thought about making money by killing targets, like mercenaryto being a man with feelings who allows himself to become attached to someone who reminds him of him, thus becoming a loving father. This shows us that children are important in our lives and we can learn a lot from them, but above all live more lightly and serenely.
