Apple continues to dominate the smartwatch market: Apple Watch is on the wrist of one in three users. But with the sector up 13% over last year, there is also room for strong performance by Samsung and a great growth of Xiaomi.
Apple Watch dominates the smartwatch market
According to Counterpoint Research in its Global Smartwatch Model Tracker, the smart watch market cincreased by + 13% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to last year in the same period.
Apple dominates the market with 36%, with Samsung the only rival that comes close. However, Xiaomi saw one huge growth + 69% on an annual basis, obtaining excellent results especially in the low end of the market under 100 euros.
The research explains that “although the global smartwatch market experienced reduced growth in 2020 due to the impact of Covid-19, it continued to perform well since the beginning of 2021 ″, leading to market growth.
Notably, “Apple accounted for more than a third of last year’s total shipments and is further increasing its influence with a share of market by 36% in the first quarter of this year“. The key to success is that users iPhone increasingly choose to continue the experience on the wrist by buying an Apple Watch.
Samsung grows by 46%, thanks to the popularity of the Galaxy Watch 4, and ranks second. They follow Huawei, Xiaomi, Garmin e Amazfit. Fitbit loses popularity after the acquisition of Google, has if the launch of Pixel Watch could bring a new device into the competition. But for the moment the Apple Watch’s dominance is not in question.
