Aquaman 2: Batman cameo officially removed

Now official and confirmed the news of the cancellation of Ben Affleck’s cameo, in the role of his Batman, within Aquaman 2, aka Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom: let’s find out all the details together in this dedicated article

A long, slavish and exhausting odyssey. No, we are not talking about overcoming these eternal days of suffocating heat, but the one that DC is facing to bring Aquaman 2, aka Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to the big screen (here you will find our review of the first chapter). Between management changes, postponements due to the pandemic of which The Flash was also a victim, which however arrived at the cinema in June, in the last few hours the news, later made official, of the cancellation of Ben Affleck’s Batman cameo within the film.

Niente Batman in Aquaman 2

Initially, Batman’s cameo in Aquaman 2 actually featured Michael Keaton, who had also already shot some scenes for the role. Then when the calendar changed, and it seemed that the film should come out earlier, Affleck was brought in to reshoot that cameo. A hallucinating confusion, therefore, which then led to the decision of James Gunn and Peter Safran, respectively director and producer who only recently took over the DC cinematic universe, to completely cut the cameo.

Of course there is still time for things to change again, Aquaman 2 will only be released in December so we still have more than four months ahead of us. However, when DC decided to put Gunn and Safran in charge it was in a historical moment in which directors and producers were constantly changing vision and tactics for their films, generating new confusion. Gunn has already been very clear about his vision of the DC universe, which is to be cohesive and whose characters must always be played by the same actors. A connection that will only release from the cinematographic universe to reach other mediums, such as video games and TV series. Let’s see what happens in short.

In the meantime, however, to see the Batman scenes in Aquaman 2 we will have to wait for the home video version with the deleted scenes or for the latter to start leaking on the net.
