Through a press release, Microids shared with us a new dev diary dedicated to Beyond a Steel Sky, where the developers explain us something more about the lore of the title
In 1994 many of you weren’t born yet, but whoever was there may remember a graphic adventure called Beneath a Steel Sky. Then remastered in 2009, in an iOS version, the series has been silent for some time. This was until Microids announced a sequel, Beyond a Steel Sky, which has convinced and captured us since the first trailers. In Beneath a Steel Sky the protagonist was Robert Foster, left completely alone with his friend Joey, an AI he built as a child. The two arrive in Union City, where they must manage to save the oppressed citizens from a dictatorship set up by the LINC, the AI that controls every aspect of people’s lives. In Beyond a Steel Sky, Robert returns to Union City ten years after the events of the original game, but he finds it completely changed. A utopia, it would seem, in which people are happy.
Through a press release, Microids has shared with us in the past few hours a new dev diary dedicated to the title arriving next November 30 on consoles, after a period of more than a year on PC, which will allow us to discover something more about the lore of the game. The title was created by Charles Cecil, Revolution Software CEO & Game Director and creator of the Broken Sword series, with the artistic direction of Dave Gibbons, legendary cartoonist like Watchmen. We leave you the video below.
Beyond a Steel Sky reveals a little more about himself in the new dev diary
Charles Cecil addresses, in this dev diary, the study carried out for the creation of the game lore. Obviously, the main issue was consistency with the previous chapter:
We wanted all the core elements, all the lore and spirit of Beneath a Steel Sky to be present as part of the gameplay, so that players can immerse themselves in it as they solve puzzles and progress through the story.
For players who want to find out even more about the lore of the series, the game includes two museums: the Contemporary History Museum, dedicated to the tradition of Beyond a Steel Sky, and the Ancient History Museum, where you can find out more about Beneath at Steel Sky. Charles added on this:
We hope that players will enjoy these two special locations, as they will offer them the chance, if they want, to immerse themselves even more in the game. For our part, we have made sure that everything needed to continue in the game can be learned during the gameplay, but we wanted to create a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pass on all the secrets of the series. I am really excited to be able to bring Beyond to Steel Sky on consoles and I know that the game will appeal to both new players and old fans.
