Dwayne Johnson has broken his silence on his possible return to Black Adam 2 or in general in the DC universe under construction, explaining that at the moment there is no place for his anti-hero
In recent weeks there has been a series of news about the future of the DCU. After the farewell of Henry Cavill to the role of Superman and the almost certain confirmation of Zachary Levi in the role of Shazam, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has addressed the issue of his return in Black Adam 2. The period of ferment began when James Gunn has openly stated his intentions about the future role in the DCU. And after saying goodbye to Henry Cavill and placing Wonder Woman on standby, Dwayne Johnson also has some unpleasant news for his fans. According to the actor, there is no sequel to Black Adam in this future of the DCU.
James Gunn and Peter Safran have in fact taken over as co-CEOs of DC Studios. Since joining, they’ve mapped out a path for the DCU for the next ten years, and in doing so, they’ve had to turn the cards on the table undermining some security of the most ardent fans.
Black Adam 2 will not happen: the statements of Dwayne Johnson
After the announcement of a film about Superman but without Henry Cavill, even Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has confirmed that his anti-hero protector of Kahndaq will not return, at least for now. Despite the huge success of the film, it seems that the actor has no guaranteed future in the new DCU. As Collider reports, he said:
My fellow fans, I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the future of the character in the new DC universe. James Gunn and I have talked and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of the narrative. However DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be used in future chapters of the DC multiverse. After 15 years of hard work making Black Adam, I am very proud of the film we have delivered to fans around the world. I will always remember the fan reaction with great gratitude, humility and love.
It therefore seems that Dwayne Johnson’s future in DC is currently at a standstill, and that there will be no Black Adam 2 anytime soon. However, we will update you on all future developments.
