Christopher Nolan, during his speech at the Golden Globes, mentions Heath Ledger, paying homage to him and talks about the year in which he had to collect the award
The season of the major cinema awards has officially begun thanks to the Golden Globe evening. Cinema this year has definitely seen the triumph of the Oppenheimer phenomenon, who now seems to be in pole position for the Oscars. After six nominations in the past years thanks to his other masterpieces, Christopher Nolan collected his first Golden Globe for best director, thanks to the film Oppenheimer and, immediately after going on stage talked about the late Heath Ledger which had been brilliantly directed by him in the Batman sequel, The Dark Knight, the only film in which Ledger admirably staged the Joker for the trilogy entirely directed by Nolan.
The only time I stood on this stage was to accept the award on behalf of our dear friend Heath Ledger. It was very complicated and challenging for me, but in the middle of my speech, Robert Downey Jr. caught my attention and gave me a look of love and support, the same look he is giving me now, the same love and support he has always shown to so many people in our community. […] I thought it would be easier for me to accept. But as a director, I realized that I can only accept it on behalf of the people. As directors, we bring people together and try to make them do their best.
Nolan’s speech was one of the most emotional and heartfelt during yesterday’s awards ceremony.
