According to some legal documents, Dead Island 2 will be distributed exclusively on the Epic Store
Indiscretions continue to leak from the documents made public by the trial between Epic and Apple. The last of these seems to indicate that Dead Island 2 not only will it be only one PC exclusive, but it will also be available only through Epic Store. According to the aforementioned documents, the decision to limit the spread of the video game on the market in this way depends on a broader strategy by Epic, which has invested significant capital to ensure the exclusivity of various titles.
Dead Island 2 won’t be the only Epic Store exclusive
As mentioned above, getting Dead Island 2 exclusive to the Epic Store is part of a larger one market strategy, which would like to bring several successful games to be purchased only through this platform. In addition to the aforementioned Dead Island sequel, the documents indicate that the next chapter of the franchise is also Saints Row is part of this operation.
This novelty represents only the last chapter of the troubled history Dead Island 2. The title was announced for the first time in 2014 but, despite having been a good seven years, it is not particularly close to its release than then. This delay was caused by the numerous study changes: initially the video game was entrusted to Techland but, when the latter chose to give precedence to another title on zombies, the project passed to Yager, who went bankrupt without being able to complete it. Dead Island 2 was then commissioned to Sumo Digital, which in turn was unable to make it; the project then arrived at Dambuster Studios which is currently working on it.
