With the new Mazda CX-60, the brand’s first car with full hybrid plug-in technology and a new platform with front-engined and rear-wheel drive enters the European SUV market.
We are faced with a model that embodies Mazda’s knowledge and experience that has led to the birth of true excellence, both in exterior and interior design, and in the technology used. An incredible mix of technical avant-garde and Japanese tradition, past and present meet to give us an extraordinary model.
Japanese design and philosophy
The Mazda CX-60 boasts an elegant, dynamic and minimalist style, both inside and out. The design is inspired by the fascinating Japanese philosophies and concepts that meet Mazda’s metal and technology.
The body embodies the Kodo design, the Japanese concept of Ma, that is the quiet and solemn beauty of empty space. This results in soft and elegant lines but at the same time robust. The interior design, on the other hand, introduces the idea of Kaichô, a breaking element that mixes different materials and aspects. The result is interiors decorated with maple wood, nappa leather, uniquely crafted Japanese fabrics and chrome details. To these is added the Musubu, the art of binding that pours into the seam of the dashboard.
The use of maple wood finishes best expresses Hacho’s Japanese aesthetic, that is an asymmetrical balance dictated by a deliberate irregularity. In this controlled “chaos”, the different motifs that intertwine in the fabrics respond to changes in the light and to the technique of the Kakenui, a type of Japanese sewing. The result is a graceful seam that allows you to see the underlying material for a pleasing and intriguing visual effect.
Beauty and power
We now come to the technological side of the Mazda CX-60 and its power. This model kicks off the arrival of plug-in hybrid models with powertrain in Europe. We therefore find a Skyactiv-G 2.5 engine, four-cylinder petrol with direct injection, side by side with a 100 kW electric motor and a high-capacity battery of 355V and 17.8 kWh. The combination of these two types of engines results in a total system power of 327 hp / 241 kW and an abundant torque of 500 Nm. Without doubt the most Mazda you can ever produced capable of accelerating from 0-100 km / h in just 5.8 seconds.
In electric-only mode, the combined WLTP fuel consumption is only 1.5 l / 100km, and the combined WLTP CO2 emissions are 33g / km, for a total of 63km of range (at a maximum speed of 100 km / h).
A new architecture
As anticipated, the Mazda CX-60 introduces a new architecture called Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture. This is the heart of the car, designed to be compatible with the longitudinal arrangement of the mechanics of the front-engined and rear-wheel drive SUV, for excellent road holding. The high voltage battery is positioned between the front and rear axles, the lowest point inside the body to give the car the lowest possible center of gravity, this, together with the permanent all-wheel drive system, gives great maneuverability at the height of the best Premium cars.

In fact, we find an innovative Mazda Driver Personalization System which will recognize the driver and will be able to automatically adjust the position of the seat, the steering wheel, the mirrors, the display and even previously set settings such as the air conditioning. The system will be able to store up to 6 profiles (drivers) for a personalized and engaging experience. There is, of course, no shortage of advanced safety systems such as:
- See-Through View, a new generation 360 ° vision monitoring that widens the field of vision at low speeds
- Turn Across Traffic Assist (traffic turn assistant)

Mazda CX-60, price and availability
After exploring the new Mazda CX-60 inside and out, let’s find out the price and when it will be available in Italy. The price of the Mazda CX-60 e-SkyActiv Phev starts at 49,000 euros. There will be two standard trim levels, Prime and Exclusive, and two special trim levels, Homura and Takumi.
The CX-60 range will be available in Italy from September but it is already possible to purchase it with the payment methods provided by Mazda.
