Dyson V15 Detect: our review

Placed next to an “old” V11 it looks like nothing has changed. Dyson V15 Detect it seems to be its twin, with the same lines, the same colors, the same in-line positioning of tank, engine and filter. Everything is therefore extremely familiar but don’t be fooled: the news is there and it is quite interesting. The latest cordless vacuum cleaner from the British house is in fact accompanied by a new soft brush with integrated laser, a piezoelectric sensor and an anti-tangle system inserted on the motorized brushes. All elements that, yes, make the difference. We tell you why in this review.

The Dyson V15 Detect review

As anticipated, Dyson V15 Detect does not change what was proposed in the past. In fact, inside the package we find the central body, with the display positioned on the back, the removable filter, the powerful engine with 14 concentric cyclones e the container of about 0.8 liters. The grip also remains unchanged, with the battery positioned right at the base of the handle. And yes, the battery continues to be removable and easily replaceable. Among other things, in the Complete Extra and Absolute Extra versions there is already the second battery, which allows you to increase the autonomy and the time of use, reaching a maximum of 120 minutes.

Inside the package then we find the tube – not retractable -, three motorized brushes and a series of other accessories that allow you to really clean every corner of the house. In addition, you have the indispensable charger and the wall charging station. On the other hand, there is no floor lamp, present instead in the Absolute Extra and Complete Extra versions.

And the weight? The central body alone exceeds 2 kg. Adding the tube and the High Torque brush – the most advanced but also the most bulky – we get to about 3 kg. However, we have never found it really heavy: the handling is excellent and the brushes slide well on the floor, allowing you to easily clean every corner. A little less easy, on the other hand, is the use for removing cobwebs or for removing dust from raised surfaces.

What’s new?

Up to now practically nothing seems to have changed but do not be fooled: the news is there and it is quite interesting.

Yes, there is a laser

Dyson V15 Detect recensione laser

The first novelty is it laser. That no, it is not present on all brushes without distinction. In reality it is only the new Slim Fluffy soft brush that integrates this functionalitywith a grazing projection to the floor that allows you to clearly identify larger particles, hair and hair, thus helping you to understand where to focus your efforts.
But know that you are not obliged to always use the laser. In reality you have the possibility to deactivate it using the switch present right on the brush.

The question is: is it needed? Or does it still work? The answer is yes, to both questions. The laser indeed helps you cleaning in a more surgical way, giving you the ability to actually see where to act. However, be aware that the yield is not identical on every type of surface. On floors that are not completely smooth, the laser tends to enhance any roughness, confusing your ideas a little. On classic tiles, marble and parquet, on the other hand, you won’t have any problems. On the contrary, the Slim Fluffy will become your precious ally, especially if you have to clean areas prone to accumulation of dust and less prone to cleaning. Think about the surfaces under the sofa, or under the bed.

A little tip: every now and then clean the laser with a cloth. Just to eliminate any dust particles that can ruin the projections.

Dyson V15 Detect review: the piezoelectric sensor

Dyson V15 Detect pyenzoelectric sensor review

Dyson V15 is equipped with a new piezoelectric sensor which allows you to estimate the size of the incoming particles. What is it for? There are actually two activities that depend on this new addition. The first, and most important, concerns the suction power, which automatically increases when the sensor detects a greater amount of dust.
The second, on the other hand, is linked to the display. As per tradition, in fact, the small screen shows the remaining autonomy, the aspiration mode and the instructions for maintenance and troubleshooting; plus Dyson V15 Detect can show you a histogram chart that is based on the classification of particlesdivided into four sections:> 10µm,> 60µm,> 180µm,> 500µm.
It may not be information that everyone is interested in, but it could satisfy someone’s curiosity.

The anti-tangle system

Dyson V15 Detect brushes review

Dyson’s motorized brushes can rely on a new anti-tangle system that is a godsend for those with haunted houses. Basically inside the brush there is a sort of toothed comb that scrapes and breaks hair and everything that looks like it.
A particularly useful system that allows you to save time since you do not have to manually remove these elements which, on the contrary, are now pushed into the container.

The field test

All the innovations described so far only improve the already excellent experience offered by the cordless vacuum cleaners of the English company. Dyson V15 Detect guarantees an excellent level of cleaning, with the 240W motor that performs great and which can rely on the piezoelectric system and the High Torque brush to regulate the power.

Available then we find a lot of accessories that allow you to really clean every corner of the house, from the floor to the sofa, passing through the small spaces near large appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines.

Dyson V15 Detect accessories review

The noise is average while the battery allowed us to clean a small apartment several times before having to use the appropriate charger. However, it is difficult to quantify its duration as it depends a lot on the mode: with Eco you can reach 60 minutes, in Auto mode we remain on 40-45 minutes but if the floor is rather dusty and the boost is activated then it goes down quickly towards 30 minutes . In any case, it is more than enough to clean even large apartments at least once.

The Dyson V15 Detect review: conclusions

Dyson V15 Detect is a great confirmation. The British company continues to churn out products of excellent quality, using the good things done in the past and going, year after year, to add features that make the products more performing, versatile and easier to use.
And yes, it is true that the V15 is not the first vacuum cleaner to “light the way” but it is also true that until now other manufacturers had focused on LEDs rather than lasers, which are more useful and precise.
The price is challenging – we start from 749 € – but all in all in line with the increasingly fierce competition.
