We are fast approaching the 2023 Venice Grand Festival, while the strikes of screenwriters and actors continue which is slowing down all of Hollywood. While in, Eagle Pictures has released its catalog of Home Video releases for the month of September 2023, which boasts films of particular interest. One of all? Definitely The Whale.
The sun of the future | Eagle Pictures: the Home Video releases of September 2023!
From 6 September arrives in “Il sol dell’avvenire“, the new acclaimed bittersweet comedy by Nanni Moretti who returns to directing with a story about the passage of time and the evolution of cinema in all its forms, available in DVD, Blu -ray and an unmissable Combo Special Edition (DVD+Blu-ray), with a card, a booklet and a poster of the film inside. Between irony and nostalgia, Nanni Moretti returns to the moralism and sarcasm that have represented his stylistic code since the beginning, signing a story that is a tribute to the great Italian cinema, above all Federico Fellini. Through his alter ego Giovanni, Moretti reflects on the difficulty of adapting to a world that changes too quickly and manages to excite the viewer, making him laugh, cry and dance. Giovanni is a director who shoots a film set in 1956, writes a film from Cheever’s Swimmer and imagines a film with lots of Italian songs.

Also from September 6, the exciting “The Whale”, the new feature film by the award-winning American director Darren Aronofsky, released in DVD, Blu-ray formats and an exclusive 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition version with the film’s script inside . Presented at the 79th. edition of the Venice International Film Festival, “The Whale” was met with over six minutes of applause and was acclaimed by international critics, winning two Academy Awards including Best Actor to Brendan Fraser (star of “The Mummy”) for his extraordinary performance. Aronofsky goes overboard to tell the story of a lonely, severely obese literature teacher who tries to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption.

After the triumph of the first feature film “Spider-Man – A new universe”, winner of multiple awards in 2019, including an Oscar for Best Animated Film, the second installment of the franchise went down in history as the most expensive animated film ever. An engaging and exciting story in which we find the superhero Miles Morales now a teenager and a college student: after reuniting with Gwen Stacy and returning to Brooklyn for good, the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted into the Multiverse, where he meets a team of Spiders -Heroes tasked with protecting his very existence. From 20 September available on DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and a collectible Steelbook also in 4K, the live action of one of the most loved Disney classics of all time, “The Little Mermaid” by Rob Marshall (already appreciated for the fourth chapter of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” saga). The cast features exceptional stars including Academy Award winner Javier Bardem as King Triton, Ariel’s father, and the eclectic Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, the wicked Sea Witch. The world under the sea of live action makes use not only of an open-air set made in Italy – the pristine beaches of Sardinia – but also of the voice of Mahmood who, in the Italian version, brings to life the funny character of the crab Sebastian with his interpretation of the iconic song Under the sea. In this visually stunning and realistic retelling of the classic Disney animated musical, a spirited young mermaid is determined to follow her heart. Her pact with the wicked Sea Witch allows her to experience life on earth, but puts her own life in serious danger.

Still from September 20, “Kidnapped”, the exciting new film by Marco Bellocchio, arrives in DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD formats, received with great enthusiasm at the 76th. edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Based on a true story – which has become an international case – the film boasts a team of actors in a state of grace, starting with Paolo Pierobon, who plays Pope Pius IX in Rome in 1858, under whose custody the Jewish child Edgardo is raised Mortara, torn from his family of origin as he was secretly baptized at the age of six months. Papal law is final: he must receive a Catholic education. Edgardo’s parents, distraught, do everything to get their son back. Supported by public opinion and by the international Jewish community, the battle of the Mortaras soon took on a political dimension, but the Pope did not agree to return the child. While Edgardo grows in the Catholic faith, the temporal power of the Church is waning and the Savoyard troops conquer Rome. A possession horror where the demon is the Catholic Church.

“Beau is afraid” will be released from 27 September the new psychological odyssey directed by visionary director Ari Aster starring Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix, which will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD. A disturbing bold and adrenaline-pumping black comedy that combines mystery and psychoanalysis. The fearful Beau (Joaquin Phoenix), introverted and easy prey to anxieties and obsessions, is preparing to travel to visit his mother but, on the eve of departure, chaos explodes in front of him. Unable to reach his destination, Beau takes roads that are not on any map and is forced to face all the fears and lies of a lifetime. After “Hereditary”, presented at Sundance in 2018, and “Midsommar”, included among the 10 best independent films of 2019, the award-winning cult author Ari Aster returns to amaze the public with a work that weaves mystery and dark humor in a visionary and immersive journey.
