In the last tranche of security tests this year, independent road safety agency Euro NCAP puts it to the test BMW iX. The Bavarian electric SUV, which we have already tested this year and which has convinced us a lot on the road, has scored the highest marks, obtaining the most coveted 5 stars. Euro NCAP praised the BMW iX for the level of protection given to passengers, and for the excellent ADAS available on board. So let’s see in detail the results of iX.
Euro NCAP awards BMW iX with five stars: impeccable protection for adults and children, and ADAS perfectly tuned
For some time now, Euro NCAP tests have not only dealt with a car’s ability to protect its occupants in the event of an accident, but also with how the car fares in the event of a pedestrian hit. The true sword of Damocles, however, have become the active safety systems, the so-called FENNEL, which today weigh more than ever on the car’s overall score. The concept is that, if the car is equipped with excellent safety systems, it is able to avoid accidents upstream, thus making it safer.
BMW iX in the Euro NCAP crash tests shone with its ADAS. The Euro NCAP has in fact awarded iX with a score of81% for the quality of its active safety systems. In particular, the independent European body appreciated the systems di monitoring the psycho-physical state of the driver, as well as the excellent active lane maintainer, flawless automatic braking and seatbelt warnings both front and rear. To be perfect, there is only a more immediate response in avoiding crossing the roadside. Overall, however, the result is excellent.
Where the BMW iX has been most convincing, however, is in the protection of the occupants, both adults and children. In the protection of adults BMW iX achieved an excellent 91%, with almost perfect protection both front and back. The Bavarian SUV does even better with children: Euro NCAP awarded BMW iX a score of87%. In reality, however, the protection offered to the little ones is impeccable: the only flaw that lowered the score is the absence of the Isofix attachments on the front passenger seat, on the rear seat in the center and the CRS anchors.
In the end, the very vertical nose of the iX did not allow the electric of Monaco to exceed even in the protection for pedestrians 80%. iX stops at 73%, an excellent result obtained thanks to the presence of an active hood, which rises in the event of a pedestrian hit. The Euro NCAP only pointed out poor pelvic protection due to the high waistline. However, this is a problem common to all high-drive SUVs. These very high scores in each category have allowed the BMW iX to achieve a five-star EuroNCAP rating, full marks.
