FESCAAAL: The late summer fruit opens the 32nd edition festival

The French-Tunisian director Erige Sehiri, here in her first fiction film, directs a story immersed in the warm light of summer that speaks of female solidarity, resistance against patriarchal tradition and conflict between generations, set in a suggestive Tunisian orchard where a group of women and girls are dedicated to picking figs at the end of the summer season. During the day the orchard becomes a theater of emotions, a place where the dreams and hopes of a modern and freer generation pass, alongside a more disconsolate previous one, anchored to traditions.

The synopsis of the film

At the end of summer, a group of girls and women work in an orchard in northwestern Tunisia to pick figs. Watched by workers and older men, the girls flirt, tease, argue about men, and argue.

During the day, the orchard becomes a theater of emotions, a place where the dreams and hopes of a freer modern generation pass, alongside one more anchored in traditions.
