Fortnite again available on iOS through Xbox Cloud Gaming

Microsoft recently announced that it has partnered with Epic Games to make Fortnite available on Apple devices through its game streaming service, Xbox Cloud Gaming. Let’s find out all the details together.

Fortnite returns to iOS through Xbox Cloud Gaming

Fortnite is back but still won’t be able to enter theApp Store. To play, however, you will have to use the browser Safari Apple and visit the Xbox site; this is a less simple process but takes a few minutes. You also don’t need a paid subscription to start playing; however, you will need to have a account Microsoft to link it to your Epic Games account.

Technically, Microsoft’s new workaround is the second loophole that brings the shooter back to iPhone and iPad. In January, NVIDIA announced that users could play Fortnite through the GeForce Now game streaming service. However, the Microsoft experience is much more attractive.

Epic Games has started a battle against Apple in 2020, when the Fortnite producer tried to bypass the 30% cut in in-app purchases of society. The result? Fortnite has been banned from iOS. Epic sued Apple, accusing the iPhone maker of violate antitrust laws.

Microsoft is focusing heavily on cloud gaming, so it makes sense for the company to partner with Epic Games, one of the rare gaming companies that owns a cross-platform online multiplayer successful. It is also a useful one defensive position against Apple on an issue that has already created a rift between companies.

Apparently, Apple thwarted Microsoft’s plans to launch a ‘applicazione all-in-one per iOS Xbox Cloud Gaming requiring that individual games be downloaded separately – a restriction that explains why Microsoft is pointing people to the browser Safari to play Fortnite instead of the App Store.

Microsoft says Fortnite will be his first popular free-to-play cloud game title but not the last. Catherine Gluckstein, Xbox Cloud Gaming Head of Product, ha dichiarato:

At Xbox, we want to make the game accessible to 3 billion players around the world, and the cloud plays an important role in that mission. Quite simply we want you to have more choice both in the games you play and in how you choose to play them.
