According to a leaked report in the past few hours, Maggie Gyllenhaal will direct the remake of The wife of Frankenstein for Netflix: in the cast also Christian Bale and Peter Sarsgaard
One of the famous Universal monsters would be ready to return to the big screen, in a contemporary version. In the past few hours, in fact, the news has leaked that Maggie Gyllenhaal would be working on a remake of The wife of Frankenstein (1935) produced by Netflix, which should also boast the presence of Christian Bale in the cast. The project would be titled The Bride and could bring back one of the most popular gothic horror films of all time. Conceived as the second chapter of the saga dedicated to Frankenstein from Universalthe feature film imagines Dr. Frankestein grappling with the creation of a mate for his “creature”, with obviously unexpected consequences.
A Netflix remake of Bride of Frankenstein
According to the report, Maggie Gyllenhaal will therefore return to collaborate with Netflix after hers directorial debut with The Dark Daughter, an adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name starring Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson. At the moment it is not clear if the star will also be involved in the project as an actress or if she will only take care of directing. In the cast, in addition to Christian Bale, already Gyllenhaal’s set mate in the second and third chapter of the de trilogy The dark Knightshould also appear Peter Sarsgaard, husband of the actress. However, no role has currently been revealed and Bale could therefore play both the “Creature” and Dr. Frankenstein. Filming on The Bride is expected to begin in early 2024, while a release date has not yet been revealed. Maggie Gyllenhaal, absent from the screen since 2020, when she took part in Best Summer Ever, has therefore decided to continue to deal with projects that see her involved behind the camera. Netflix, in addition to the remake of the 1935 classic, is involved in another adaptation of the story of Frankenstein directed by Guillermo Del Toro with Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac and Andrew Garfield. All that remains is to wait for further updates.
