FUJIFILM presents the new X-S20 all-in-one mirrorless, compact and suitable for both shooting and video shooting: let’s find out all the details together.
FUJIFILM introduces the new X-S20 mirrorless digital camera that takes the features of the XS series even further. It is equipped with the 26.1 MP “X-Trans CMOS 4” back-illuminated sensor and the “X-Processor 5” high-speed image processing engine to produce high-quality images. It is equipped with a large handle, for better stability and a more secure grip. Uses a new high-capacity battery that doubles the number of frames, approx. 800, compared to those of the previous model.
The compact and lightweight body, weighing in at just 491g, makes it comfortable to use even during long shooting sessions. X-S20 also features the built-in five-axis image stabilization mechanism (IBIS) which offers an edge of up to 7.0 stops. AI-based subject detection AF, which can detect animals and cars, enables AF performance equivalent to fifth-generation X-series cameras such as the FUJIFILM X-T5, but with greater mobility.
FUJIFILM: presented the new mirrorless X-S20
The X-S20 supports internal 6.2K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video recording and features a 3.5mm microphone/earphone jack for connecting external accessories for professional-grade video recording. Furthermore, new Vlog mode makes it easier to produce a Vlog when the camera is combined with the TG-BT1 tripod grip.
In addition to X-S20, FUJIFILM presented the FUJINON XF8mmF3.5 R WR lens, and the FUJIFILM XApp app for smartphones and tabletsall with a view to promoting and spreading the pleasure of photography through its X Series mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors, a wide range of premium quality lenses.
FUJIFILM X-S20: the main features
- High image quality and high-performance AF thanks to the 26.1 MP image sensor and the latest high-speed image processing engine
The X-S20 is equipped with the 26.1MP “X-Trans™ CMOS 4” back-illuminated sensor and the “X-Processor 5” high-speed image processing engine to produce high-quality images while maintaining lower power consumption than the previous model.
It features subject tracking AF developed with Deep Learning technology. Artificial intelligence is used to detect animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, trains, insects and drones*6. The AF system automatically tracks a desired subject while keeping it in focus, allowing users to concentrate on framing. The advanced AF prediction algorithm enables stable focusing even in AF-C mode.
The AUTO mode, which automatically selects the optimal settings according to the scene, is complemented by the new AUTO Subject Detection function. Automatically detects a subject and tracks it while keeping it in focus to easily produce high-quality photos and videos.
The X-S20 is equipped with 19 Film Simulation modes including “Nostalgic Neg.”, featuring high saturation and soft tone. Users can use Film Simulation presets, designed for various types of subjects and scenes, as if they were choosing photographic film.
- High-capacity battery and high-performance IBIS stabilization mechanism in a compact, lightweight body for ease and comfort
The X-S20 is equipped with the wide handle characteristic of the XS series to increase the stability of the freehand grip, while keeping the body compact and light, weighing only 491g.
Using the large-capacity battery, NP-W235, more than doubled the number of frames to approx. 800 compared to those of the previous model. The extended battery life allows users to enjoy shooting without worrying about the level of charge remaining, making the camera the perfect choice for long shooting that lasts all day or while travelling.
The camera is equipped with the integrated five-axis image stabilization (IBIS) mechanism that offers an advantage of up to 7.0 stops. This simplifies handheld shooting at night or in low-light conditions.
The X-S20 is equipped with a 2.36 million-dot electronic viewfinder with 0.62x magnification and a 1.84 million-dot rear LCD monitor with vari-angle structure that can be used at any angle , also making it easier to take self-portraits. The camera can also be combined with the TG-BT1 tripod grip, for Vlog production.
- 6.2K/30P video recording and other extended video functions
The X-S20 can record 6.2K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video internally, and also supports extended video functions including 4K/60P and 1080/240P.
It features F-Log2 for recording video in the extended dynamic range of over 13+ stops, for even richer tonality, thus adding greater creative freedom during post-production.
When combined with an ATOMOS HDMI device, the X-S20’s RAW video output can be recorded as 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW at up to 6.2K resolution and frame rates up to 29.97 fps. When combined with Blackmagic Design Video Assist 12G, RAW video output from the camera can be recorded as Blackmagic RAW at resolutions up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97 fps.
Despite the Compact and lightweight body The camera features a 3.5mm microphone/earphone jack for high expandability. Also, the new Vlog mode has been introduced which facilitates the production of Vlogs. By setting the mode switch on the top panel to “Vlog” you can easily change the camera settings with just a touch of the screen in self-portrait configuration.
To connect the camera to a computer and use it as a native webcam, just use a USB Type-C cable, i.e. without the need for additional software such as FUJIFILM X Webcam. The modalities of Film Simulation are also available during live streaming or online meetings. Shooting settings can be adjusted even while the camera is connected to a computer.
