The storyline of GAGARINE – Protect what you love
The film was shot in the apartments and courtyards of the huge social housing complex City Gagarinjust before his demolition occurred in 2019. Inspired by this real news story, the tale of GAGARINE – Protect what you love comes to life right in the banlieue south of Paris. Here stands the red brick complex of the same name Cité Gagarine, which is about to be demolished after years of decay and neglect. Among the 370 families waiting to be assigned to other homes, there are those who are more ready than others to say goodbye to such a significant place. Over all it is the sixteen year old Youri, who grew up there, not wanting to resign. As the apartments around him empty and construction sites and workers multiply, the boy puts his engineering talent and a “cosmic” fantasy at the service of a dream: to save Cité Gagarine.
GAGARINE – Protect what you love will bring you in an extraordinary visual journey through the consequences of history and the dreamy determination of Youri, a shy teenager, capable of challenging the inspectors of the Paris municipality, fixing light bulb after light bulb, with the aim of delaying the cancellation of his world.
