Mini PCs are extremely versatile and powerful laptops that can be used for a variety of different purposes. Those from GEEKOM are very compact and can be easily carried in a backpack or even in a jacket pocket. Until now the main use had been to web browsing, use of multimedia content, office software. GEEKOM AS6 and AS5: with Asus and AMD the new generation of mini PCs
GEEKMON’s new mini PCs respect the tradition of the brand with compact dimensions, even if slightly more overweight than we are used to. Let’s talk about 120 x 130 x 58 mm however, it is certainly not an exaggerated volume (less than a litre). The construction is top notch, with a metal chassis.
Outside the two models appear almost identical, but inside we have two very different configurations. GEEKOM AS6 is the top of the range with a processors Ryzen 9 6900HX o Ryzen 7 6800H e una GPU integrata Radeon Graphics 680M. This iGPU is based on the RDNA2 architecture and is said to have enough power to match Playstation 4 and run games like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Final Fantasy XV at 1080p30. In fact, these are the most powerful APUs currently on the market. We also recall that Playstation 5 is based on an AMD APU. We will also be able to have up to 64 GB of RAM and up to 2T of SSD disk. The GEEKOM AS5 model instead will mount a processor AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX con iGPU Vega 8. This APU, despite being from the past generation, still has a lot to give. Here too we can have up to 64 GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD memory. A second hard drive can also be mounted on both.
Obviously, as per tradition, we will have available a complete connectivity system in step with the times. Wireless side, we have Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Wired side, we then have 2x USB-C 4 ports, 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, 2x HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort, 2.5G LAN.
In short, nothing to envy to a high-end PC. With these assumptions, even playing or editing videos shouldn’t be a big problem.
The end of Intel NUC hegemony?
A mini PC like GEEKOM AS6 and AS5 directly challenge a product like Intel NUC 13 Arena Canyon. This is the top of the range with Intel i7-1360P processor and Iris Xe graphics. Despite the powerful configuration, GEEKOM’s new mini PCs could really undermine the competitor. Especially with regard to the graphics, GEEKOM AS6 on paper is ahead of the Intel counterpart. But the other features such as connectivity, memory and customization are also to the advantage of GEEKOM.
