God of War Ragnarok debuted earlier this month, and it’s fair to reiterate that the game lived up to the years of anticipation leading up to its release (we also told you about it at length in our review dedicated). The title in question has been widely acclaimed by critics and is leading the nominations for the The Game Awards of next month. It is certainly not surprising, therefore, that the success of God of War Ragnarok is also reflected in the data relating to sales. God of War Ragnarok: a real sales record, here are the data
The news of the last few hours is that Sony has announced that God of War Ragnarok did register sales of 5.1 million units in its debut week. A record launch for the Kratos franchise, given that the last title in the series sold 3.1 million copies at its launch in 2018. The newly released sequel also represents the biggest launch ever for a PlayStation first-party title, surpassing 4 million units placed by The Last of Us Part 2 at launch.

Kratos and Atreus’ latest adventure also had a solid debut in Japan, while in the UK, launch week sales beat those of Elden Ring and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. review of the title in question we assigned a score of 9.3, stating that: “God of War Ragnarok amazes right away and it is strange how he is able to do it even if, fundamentally, one can expect what one is getting into, at least from the point of view of the rustic and playful structure. Perhaps, however, it is precisely that emotional involvement and that drive towards the previously mentioned humanization, which is immediately felt, that makes the difference”.
We remind you that God of War Ragnarok is available for PS5 and PS4. The game director Eric Williams stated that it is the game is unlikely to receive downloadable contentalthough developer SIE Santa Monica Studio is still working on several projects.
