Hogwarts Legacy has not yet been released, and has already had a rather troubled existence: announced for the first time in 2020, the title was expected due out in 2022, after being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. While Hogwarts Legacy is still slated to arrive this year, its actual release date may still be a long way off.
Hogwarts Legacy: what’s the release date?
Recently, new rumors have emerged about the alleged Hogwarts Legacy launch window which, apparently, may still be a long way off. The information was given by a Warner Bros. executive interviewed by Toy World about the IP of Wizarding World, or the brand that contains all the products related to the Harry Potter universe.
The woman, Rachel Wakely, explained that two important releases are planned for the brand this year: Fantastic Beasts: Dumbeldore’s Secrets, the third film in the Fantastic Beasts trilogy, and then the new open world game set in the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The executive has made it clear that the video game will be released after the feature film, an element that can give us an idea of when the latter could arrive.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in fact should arrive in theaters there‘April 8, 2022 and, assuming that the game will actually arrive after the movie, it is reasonable to imagine that the release will be in the summer or even next fall. In short, we still have almost a year to wait if this information turns out to be correct.
It must be said that the studies of Warner Bros are currently really working on in regards to the gaming industry. In addition to Hogwarts Legacy, the publisher will also publish Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and in all probability also Multiversus, a fighting game similar to Super Smash Bros. but free-to-play in 2022.
What do we know about the game?
According to the information currently available on the game, Hogwarts Legacy should present an original plot, but which follows the same structure seen in the books. In the game, therefore, we will play the role of a student of the school of witchcraft and wizardry of Hogwarts, but the details of the story still remain an unsolved mystery, except that it will be set in 1800.
From a playful point of view, Hogwarts Legacy is configured as an open world action RPG with fully customizable characters. Players will indeed decide the gender of your protagonist, choose the voice and change the physical characteristics as desired. There will even be the possibility to choose sexual orientation and gender identity, to make the title as inclusive as possible.
As in any self-respecting RPG, any Hogwarts student will be able to to level up, learn new magical and combat skills, new spells and potions. It looks like it will also be possible to tame and care for some fantastic animals.
Finally, faced with an open world title, Hogwarts Legacy will not take place exclusively within the walls of the school. In fact, we will be able to explore the village of Hogsmade, the Forbidden Forest and other iconic environments of the Harry Potter universe.
